James Maddison

I would like yo think I'm on the positive side on here but there is a serious issue with this lad. I get injury has blocked his season but he just looks shot, anytime he gets the ball now his first instinct looks backwards and his lack of pace is a real worry, was a few times today he had a yard on those around him and he got nicked off.

Am.i being harsh is being worried that his legs are gone, too many injuries maybe? Was never that quick but his drop off isn't even being covered by touches of class now.

I think he'll be okay with time but needs to be benched. From memory, he had a couple of ropey spells with Leicester too and found himself on the bench occasionally. Seems a bit streaky not unlike Sonny.

It's a shame because at 27, you'd hope inconsistency would be less of an issue. You get it with young players and give them some leeway.

Really hoped the move here would see him nail that ability to produce week in, week out consistently strong performances.

I know it's easy to say from the outside, but he does also seem like he's gotten big for his boots, even though he's always been pretty roostersure.

Billy big nuts always making sure he ends up on the cameras. Needs to just focus on being good at football consistently and putting a shift in.

I knew we would lose when I saw his Barnet. He started playing brick when he had that heavier squared off finish at the back and short on the sides. He’s been a moaning Minnie for a few games now, needs to focus on recovering when a decision goes against us or him rather than sit on his arse appealing. Him and Son at the moment have been tinkle poor, I appreciate Son has been playing out of position and he stood up for the penalty but overall they have been poor. I will not be able to bear it if filth win the League and I would rather we throw the game against City if it came to that. Yes it’s small time but so are we when we gift teams a 3-0 lead at HT.

I think he's just out of form, simple as that. Nothing I've seen indicates that he's still immature, quite the opposite, he seems to be a settled family man these days. Let's not go down the Dele route and make unfounded assumptions.

I don't think he is off form. I think this is the Madisson that was part of the squad that relegated Leicester. He needs to be benched for a while. However it is his first season. Let's hope he improves.

Same as always happened at Leicester post

Bit harsh, he scored 10 goals and got 9 assists for Leicester that year. Obviously, I wasn't paying that much attention to their games (aside from chuckling at their defeats) but it seems harsh to apportion too much blame for their relegation to him.

I didn’t say that
But he is well known by Lestah fans for not recovering from his annual injury
They still loved him by the way

GLC has looked good enough when he has played.. issue is he has never stayed fit enough
I hear you, but that's the issue though, good enough for what? We simply cannot be dissatisfied if a squad of players good enough for 4-7th finishes 5th. Every single EPL player is varying degrees of good. To take the extra step, we need players who have that little extra, to be able to step up when needed. Even Leicester, as much as we like to say they fluked it, had players who had just that little extra that year. Mahrez, Vardy, Kante, arguably even Drinkwater and Albrighton.

At this very moment in time we lack that, except for in brief spells. But it is what it is. We didn't play too poorly today, Arsenal didn't play us off the park by any means, but we were neither good enough nor lucky or even angry enough to win.

Yeah I agree
But you can’t carry players in these games
We’re carrying Maddison when GLC should get a chance

You're probably right, but I really want to have Maddison snap into place and feel like it can happen anytime. He was so great at the start of the season. With Lo Celso, I have this (probably incorrect) feeling that we have seen the best of him. He's a good player, but he has no ace up his sleeve, so to speak. Maddison's ceiling is much higher. My personal opinion of course. But I totally agree that we should be better at benching out of form players.

Maddison can be class
But right now he is costing us and we still have things to play for
His ball retention is t there and his passing is none existent
Hence why we need the change
Lo Celso is off in the summer but I’d milk him for games now
Him and Bentacur played the best football we have all season that brief spell at home vs Villa
There is a kink up there that could be used IMO

Hopefully he gets his mojo back, as looked like we’d finally found a heir to Eriksen before the injury…

I think on Thursday we should consider a midfield of Sarr, Bissouma, and Deki...

Talk is Maddison is carrying an injury.

So Maddison doing a GLC.

Does Ange need help assembling a proper physio and fitness team? We're playing quit irregularly I admit but how are we going to deal with the demands of European football with our injury v recovery rate.
