The problem with Trump 2.0 (compared to 1.0) is he's surrounded himself with a plethora of minions oh so ready to kiss the ring. Plus the obvious equally power hungry narcissistic types. So moments of clarity (and even normality) are just not accessible

Yes. There is no one now to stay his hand nor curb his worse impulses this time out. The daily horror show though is mostly being prompted by competing factions behind the scenes. Trump has barely an original thought himself. He is a vessel filled by the malice of others.

Thomas Zimmer, the historian, has identified 3 main factions all using Trump for their own ends. They are working in concert now for the most part but their end goals are not the same. It may end in infighting, but America will be broken beyond repair at that point.
