There is a Cuban connection here too which I just read about. Cuba's energy comes from Venezuela oil and the recent attacks have affected that supply. In addition most of Maduras bodyguards, intelligence operatives and those in close orbit are Cuban, as I assume he doesn't trust the locals. So it was in Cuba's interests to keep Madura in place.

That's far too simplistic a take on things.
The real (and very valid) issue for the US is there being a Russian/Chinese puppet with close ties to Iran and Cuba on their doorstep.
If they're worried by ties to Cuba then why don't they just do the same with Cuba?

It poses a huge threat. Any country with close ties to China and Russia is a danger. One within missile/drone range, particularly so.
