It's a high difficulty and high risk set up. If confidence is low, you're under the cosh or you're just having a bad day you're f**ked as there isn't a progressive easy ball in the system. Yeah when everyone is on it you can go smash villa or city 4-0 but that happens about 4 or 5 times a season

Too many of our games are open to random outcomes, mainly due to way WE play.
We have little invention to break down low block teams
We are vulnerable to counter attacks or giving up the ball to a high press.
Never has a team given so much to a manager. The effort is always there.
The bravery, smartness, the patterns, the combinations, the guile, the flow is lacking.
Some basic mistakes are now a frequent occurrence.
Whether any of these issues are in the 'at the moment' envelope is anyone's guess. But we've kept guessing and keep mitigating and keep hoping. But tbh not much is changing.
The biggest pillar of APs philosophy is 'we never stop' ...and we do try to never stop. But the injuries, the schedule and the sheer effort it takes at this level, degrades our output, it waters it down.
The question is, does it rely too much on this? The other elements we look poor at are, in the main, training ground work. Including the bloody defending. That's on the manager and coaches.
I just can't see getting the consistency at this level to get close in the league. And with this style of play, it only takes one off game to be on the receiving end of a loss, and then you're out of cups as well.
Imo It's a good growing squad with plenty to be excited about but what they are experiencing is quite brutal.

But the system is flawed.
We are currently way less than the sum of our parts.
Football is quite simple if you get it right.
We make it look almost impossible.
But I still want to see it out, I want to see Ange all the way to the summer, so everyone knows whether he can turn it around and see where we really are.

The 'sum of its parts' visual is always a good eye test. Tbh I've never thought that with this AP side. Yes, we've run some teams over but that's on days when the 'never stop' tactic has worked and we've been clinical with our chances.
I definitely wanted to give him until the end of the season. My concern now is how much it might fudge up next season if we stick, and next season 12 games in...all the doubts are still there.

If we do keep him until AZ and we lose, then I agree, we might as well just stay the course. I don't think we will win the EL either way, but we will stand a bigger chance with someone else at the helm come Thursday, in my opinion.
I think the really hardcore Ange In-guys, if they still exist, will always use the criticism against him and people's lack of support to explain his downfall and failings, regardless of whether or not we give him the rest of the season.

I think the optimal version of the 'never stop' game is what we saw from PSG vs Liverpool in the week.
And I just don't think that output is consistently possible from a team that plays in the PL.(Even with a decent squad and a fair wind with injuries). And if, and when, that output drops you look very ordinary, you're quite simply not going to become winners.
