He turned us down, time will tell

- He's inherited a very good squad from Klopp, added a little more pragmatism and game control. He's also benefitted massively from pretty much every other top 6 side struggling at same time.
- The question is long term can he maintain the attacking output with that pragmatic/more defensive (than Klopp) approach, and how they replace Salah

So far, smart from them .. although I still laugh at how the media reported our interest in him (big risk, Dutch league, etc.) vs. when Liverpool looked at him, it was suddenly a perfect fit and smart judgement
Must say that I didn’t notice this. Slot was considered one of the brightest, young managers in football when we went in for him. It is perfectly understandable why he wasn’t interested in damaging that reputation at Spurs.

Exactly this, I think we need to do better in some instances with it but we do blood youth, but there is no way we should be reliant solely on youth as I have moaned on about the last week or so we should be aspiring for ready now players and a mix.

I am not belittling what Brighton do, they are probably best in class at what they do BUT their ambitions are different and pressures are also different. To give another example, there is no way Spurs fans get behind the first year Eze had to develop at Palace when he was finding his feet, its a different ballgame IMO and you see enough kneejerk reactions to players here to know the players would not get the same ride they get at the Palace and Brightons of this world
Why not? The fans are getting behind Gray, they've gotten behind Sarr. I don't really buy the argument that the fans won't support a developing player I think all the evidence suggests otherwise. What we don't support is players closer to the finished article who are clearly lacking in the basics.

And when he gets there, fudges off some more.

Worst manager we’ve ever had.

Amateur.

Almost tempting to hope for more to truly emphasize our inability to defend. For the disagreers: I'm never going to support the team unconditionally, that would be rewarding failure.

we're going to meet liverpool in the fa cup and carabao cup so if ange wants to win something, he's gotta come up with something new fast.

can an old dog learn new tricks?

He's not the main problem.

Sack him now, and you only address the symptoms and not the root cause - nothing will change if we sack him and appoint Iraola or some other yes-man chump, and we'll be here again in 1.5 years shouting about the next guy losing with the patchwork squad and a poor set of players selected not because of their quality, but because they're primarily cheap in terms of wages.

More and more of us are seeing this - I think it's worth persevering with him because it prevents this cycle from repeating again, as it has done for 24 grinding years with 13 managers and only one eternal, soul-sapping constant.

So… apparently we’ve been looking at Marco Silva should we pull the trigger. Honestly, I know he’s a decent coach, but I’m not sure how I feel about that if he’s the alternative to Ange…

Eugh…
IMO he is about the only manager we could hope to bring in that might do OK under the expectations and resources this club provides.

He at least has the requisite level of experience for a club like Spurs. The worry is that his style is somewhat counter attacking but when should we ever expect anything sensible in terms of continuity planning at our very averagely run club

He's the main cause. It's not acceptable to concede six at home. The way we play is asking to be destroyed like this. Especially now that we've managed to get most of our players injured or completely knackered.

We need better coaching and better players. I still have faith in Lange to deliver longer term, but this coaching staff? No chance.

The answer is either the players in our underage teams are vastly overrated and are not close to ready or Ange is not particularly inclined to play youth players who aren't already somewhat established.
Or perhaps that underage football is massively below the level of the PL (it is) and bringing lots of young players into an already young team that is struggling but can be detrimental to good young players. Personally I think the manager has got the balance about right other than not playing Spence enough (though Spence isn’t exactly a youngster anyway)

It's not acceptable to concede six at home, agreed.

But, any manager that comes in will at best effect only marginal improvements. Because ultimately, we will not get better players. We will get the same category of players the club has (mostly) looked for, largely without exception, for 24 years - young players with high resale value, or players who are cheap in terms of wages.

Both come with limitations, and those are exposed in times of crisis. This will happen to every coach we pick, even if some get marginally better results by shutting up shop, being pragmatic, etc.

Long term, there is no hope for improvement without running a certain gentleman in the directors' box, and his tax-exile boss, out of the club. So, why go through the rigmarole of another coaching change, another two years of transition, another set of tactics that ultimately will not work?

Ange made a significant comment this week, when he said essentially that we needed more experience in the squad and might adjust our signing profile.

I absolutely agree, whatever system, it will essentially be the same. Once we get players back, I expect us to push into the EL spots again this season but Cl has gone. We might win a trophy, we probably won't.

Agreed again.

As long as it doesn't mean bring in 30 year old has beens.

Stops up investing in exciting youth talent.

And those player are better than what we have.
