Christian Eriksen

big games are usually when you're up against the best teams - meaning it's harder for players to shine as they do in the more bread and butter games. I think every player in the world would have more off days in big games than they do otherwise

That's true. But there are some players who step up in the big games more than others. Zidane and Drogba are the two that spring to my mind the most as players who took control in semis and finals.

oh definitely

also these days there seems to be this trend of the big games being very cautious affairs with one or both sides being set up not to lose first and foremost - which doesn't help attacking players

Look, I think we all agree he is a very important player, a centre piece of what Poch is building, but the question surely remains whether he is THE man, as he apparently wishes to be paid as THE man. And on that point, I would ask where he was against Leicester away, Saudi Sportswashing Machine home, Saudi Sportswashing Machine away and West Brom home to name four games off the top of my head where I expect THE man to be able to pull rabbits from hats. Again, it is a high expectation, and perhaps not wholly fair. But I raise the question repeatedly simply because I think he still has some way to go before he actually becomes THE man and perhaps one of the top stars in Europe. Aggravating thing is he has it in him. Again, parity with some of our top earners is fair, but IMO, he is not the man who should smash our wage ceiling...

1. If another team will pay, then we pay up or shut up. Irrelevant what we think as a club!
2. No one will break Levy's wage limit, this side of the new stadium opening! IMHO
3. No I agree with you, there is not a current player who should or will break our current wage limits.

Eriksen knits the game together, he isn't one for overhead kicks and ripping his shirt off. He's Danish.
He lays chances on a plate.
He tops the assist stats.
He tops the distance run stats.
He tops the ball-won-back stats for non-defensive-players.
He is vital to our team.
Pay him in the top Spurs bracket, like Lloris gets.

Yeah but, no but, yeah but, no but, he pulls out of tackles and he doesn't clog people and he isn't hard enough and he doesn't dominate games. Who cares about how hard and how far he runs and all the clever passes he plays and how he makes space for other players and scores the winner against Emirates Marketing Project at the Etihad?

Turning up in the big games is what gives the club more success and might allow higher wages.

Generally we should have more performance related elements - plenty of stat services out there to assist

Eriksen wasn't good today. A few good moments but too passive, not enough output and was rightly subbed.

Lamela was excellent again, as was Janssen, Kane decent, Alli had a good impact, Eriksen does need to up his game a bit.

He was no worse than any of the others early days for all of them!

They all worked hard in a tough game?

I like Eriksen but has more talent than he is showing . His position is too comfortable. We need another left sided player to really push him. Hopefully the Marseille guy can do this.

I see next weekend as the sort of game that could really kick-start his season. Get him rolling again. Get him moving. Get him back close to top form. But Poch should be ready to make a switch if needed...very ready. There is no doubt whatsoever that his contract talks are affecting him.

Son should look to really challenge Eriksen and Lamela for a starting place this season. Lamela played on the left at times today, Alli could perhaps play there, we also have Onomah. Chadli might even be around when the window closes. Not sure we should expect a 21 year old we're looking to sign for £10-12m to immediately challenge Eriksen for a starting spot.

I think Eriksen should be given at least a month to find his form at the start of the season. He's shown enough for us to deserve at least as much.

I think we'll see the benefits of signing Wanyama and Jannsen, especially with Dembele coming back. All the players will know that if they don't perform, we have other options. It should drive them on, Eriksen included.

I'd be tempted to bench Eriksen for Liverpool, but as much for tactical reasons as anything.

Agreed. Was his body language a bit off today ? It certainly looked like it to me when he was subbed. Reminds me a bit of Modders early season form when Levy wouldn't let him join Chelscum. Let's hope he will get his mojo back soon - perhaps it will return after the window closes ( as Modric's did).

Would start him against pool. As ever, even when playing poorly, he's vital to us. I do think he could be rotated, so something needs to change with him so he can develop again. He's been a little stuck, and needs to reassert who he is, what his skill set is, and apply it. But we need him against pool. He keeps the side ticking over. Often opposition sides see this, and mark him out the game.

Indeed, and it benefits us all if he can rediscover his form soon and grow into the outstanding talent he can still become even more of!

How much money is burning a whole in Juve's pockets from Pogba still?

I think we can find a better use for those wages.

He just doesn't have the mentality to be a big player
