Christian Eriksen

Before the start of the summer people on here were throwing around likely £80+ million likely transfer fees for Eriksen. I said we’d be lucky to get half of that sue to his contract situation. You can count on the fingers of one hand players that clubs will pay huge transfer fees for with only a year left on their current deal. Why would any club pay the mad money Levy was talking about for him when they can secure the player on a pre contract in 6 months time and save huge amounts of money?

Were you talking to levy?
Next time you see him could you ask him where he buys those long black wool coats he wears from? Winters coming in and they look really cosy and I could do with one.
Thanks

As this place, and you and I show, its no surprise how differently people see the game.

I completely understand the fiscal sense of waiting.

My point was more - why would Eriksen the player appeal to big clubs, when he has shown he cant actually be bothered to turn out for us.

By rights he could be the best player on the field for us, and at this point I wouldnt even have him in the matchday squad.

As well as the fact there has been increasing amounts of people questioning his ability to actually play on the bigger stages/bigger games,
I see where you’re coming from but Atletico did want him (he just didn’t want them). It wouldn’t surprise me if Real have done a dirty little nudge, nudge, wink, wink deal with Eriksen’s agent and he’ll sign the dotted line on a pre contract in Jan.

Id absolutely believe the Real angle.

I think the thing is, prior to the summer there were some questions to ask, since the summer he has made some rather categoric statements (in how he has performed)

Athletico were, I thought, a much better fit for him to be honest. And perhaps a great environment to prove himself and step up a level.

Now after months of being a turd, would they still be interested? Would Real?

Would you expect Spurs to follow through if we tapped a player and then he allowed his levels to drop so drastically?

Nothing would surprise me with Real, look at hazard, season on, season off.

I think if the player had proven his level consistently for a number of years previously (as Eriksen had) was still young and hadn’t suffered a serious injury then yes. I wonder whether Eriksen is coasting to avoid injury? I think it can also sometimes be difficult to put it all in when you know, you’re leaving. I know that on a couple of occasions after I have handed my notice in, I haven’t always put as much in during the 3 or 6 month notice period due to being less emotionally invested.

I understand all of that, and am not speaking definitively. Just raising the question of - could his conduct come back to bite him in the ass?

You mention work yourself, youre hiring - someone you can watch in their current role - and they absolutely just put their feet up and coast through.

You still interested?

Once they’ve already agreed to come and join me a few months later after I’ve seen them be consistently brilliant for years previously? Absolutely.... I’d be delighted that they’re having some down time so that they can throw themselves into things at my place.

Fair enough. Personally Id be thinking twice, having seen a less than favourable side to their character.

Id have been deeply impressed to see them perform at top levels throughout, by contrast

Never forget this.

Eriksen was the player through whom we channeled our game. It won us nothing in the brutal end. He didn't show up particularly in massive semis or finals. He never took those games by the scruff in the way a player who wants 300 a week should. And everyone sees it. He will never have the opportunity he had here. Wherever he goes he will be a squad player who has to conform, not a marquee player through whom the game flows. As for Alderweireld, I've said for 14 months+ I'd be fine with him leaving. His wage-induced arrogance was insane.

Another often forgotten thing here is that his original destination of choice was barca, was it not?
So two points here,
1 is he going to perform at another club that isn't his first choice.
2 having stated his first choice is barca and he rocks up at Madrid how long before the crowd turn on him? His first misplaced pass would be my guess, Madrid fans are noted for their patience.

He's screwed himself all roads IMHO, I just hope we don't offer him a new contract and let him leave if no one comes in for him.

I guess we’ll see where Eriksen ends up.

I wouldnt be surprised if he goes to Madrid, I just question if he is doing himself any favours.

I dont know if he has screwed himself, clubs see opportunity and can afford to waste money if it doesnt work out...

I said in the summer, someone could take Eriksen as a punt - on a free. If it doesnt work out sell him on for a profit afterwards, no brainer...

However, I think he is playing a dangerous game. Its not always easy to recover your mojo. Just as theres a difference in being on top of your game and brought into the first team, or seen as a risk and brought into the squad.

This.

Hazard won the Europa Cup for Chavski before buggering off to Madrid, if only Eriksen had shown half as much quality against a clearly nervous Dippers in CL final he could’ve secured his move but now he’ll probably be playing 2nd fiddle to Lo Celso if he keeps putting in such limp performances.

Meanwhile, the younger half of our Dutch defensive duo looks like either his legs have gone or his mind is elsewhere as he keeps on getting torn to shreds by any competent pacy LFW.

The analogy can only be taken so far, unless you're talking about someone whose job involves them risking a career-threatening injury every time they come to work. Not that Eriksen's ever been one to stick his head (or anything else) in where the boots are flying.

Analogies only ever go so far. The point of them is, IMO, really just to reframe how you look at something. Not to be absolutely fool proof in their comparison/appropriateness...

If I was a prospective buyer and have doubts about his commitment.
Not just from his statements but from his performance. When you are dead set n getting something that you wait years and don't get it and settle for something else, is your commitment ever the same?
Do your talking on the pitch and you'll get your move.
