Christian Eriksen

Looking at that video I'm a little surprised at how rarely he tries to beat a man. More often than not he is laying the ball off with his first/second/third touch. Not complaining but I though he had more of a trick in him than that.

That could come in handy. I noticed during the Swansea game that we were pinging it around playing two touch football, a player of this caliber having the touch he does plus being two footed could make him the final piece in the jigsaw.

IMHO this is exactly what we need. We have plenty of dribbler types - too many maybe. Our buildup is dreadfully laboured at the moment so some quick incisive passing would be 1st on my wishlist.

I cannot believe that you belive in the old "final piece of the jigsaw" rubbish

Totally agree. Exactly what we needed. Loved that video.

Agree with not needing another dribbler, i.e. not needing someone who will run into a wall of defenders ..

Pass the ball, pass it quickly, get it wide or to Soldado ...

Its a hard fight for a spot in the team.
So its going to be hard.

You have to adapt to the game, so everything aint going to be 100% in the start.
But its going to be alot of games, I hope that I will play more then I sit on the bench.

Christian Eriksen has set his sights on helping Tottenham Hotspur seal a return to the Champions League.

The 21-year-old has signed a long-term deal with the north London side after completing a reported £11.5m move to White Hart Lane from Eredivisie holders Ajax last week.

The Denmark international scored an impressive 32 goals in 161 games in all competitions for the Dutch side after joining in 2008, including three strikes in Europe.

And Eriksen insists he moved to Spurs, who are competing in the Europa League this term, to play regularly in Europe’s premier club competition.

“I have played Champions League for the past four years at Ajax and I know what it is about,” Eriksen told Spurs TV.

“It’s the best place to be and it’s the most fun part to play football, so of course everyone wants that and me too. I think [my target is] what everyone wants to come: one of the top three or maybe on the top.

“I think every game’s going to be like a Champions League game for me. That’s what I want and that’s why I moved, because I want every game to be exciting and I am really excited.”

I hope AVB doesn't hold back, we need Eriksen and Lamela in the team from the off.

what we need is a good style of play that benefits our boys.

i fear that eriksen isnt going to help much...lamela either.... if people dont adequately transition into attacking areas for them to give the ball to.

plus it seems that in the end we just feed the wide players especially the fulbacks...and ours can cross for ****.

i am seriously thinking to myslef...whats townsends defending like...lol

I think I agree with you, but, if we play a proper 4-2-3-1, with Eriksen as the middle of the 3, we should be fine, no? Especially if Dembele can regain form as one of the 2, he can dribble, play into Eriksen, who can do his thing.

A for the emboldened, he did play LB against Shamrock Rovers, I seem to recall ;)

the way i sometimes tend to try and figure out whats going to happen is to actually follow through on a play if i can ...an imaginary one of course

so dembele does his glide routine...and he has coasted beyond his man and fed Eriksen...so now eriksen has the ball and he is ready to do his thing.......in the words of the infamous thread of the GG hay day....."what does he do?"

Slips the ball through, perfectly weighted of course to any of the following: Soldado, Lamela, Holtby, Lennon, Townsend, Defoe, Chadli in a glorious position. We're 1-0 up. Repeat.

Or, draws a foul, similar to Dempsey, he then scores the free kick, or Lamela does.

Or, he takes a shot himself, and forces a corner, gets a deflection, SCORES, or there's a rebound for Soldado.

Affy, I trust you on football - and I love how you probe for answers, and ask the right questions (in sometimes convoluted way ;) ) but trust me - Erisken is the real deal, you're going to love him.

^^You forgot "plays inaccurate pass and concedes possession" or "runs into brick wall". I really hope he's not another one of those.

Not so much 'forgot' as 'didn't need to mention' - he isn't one of those. Some people seem to think he's a step over merchant who tries to dribble past 14 people before cutting back in, flicking it up and attempting an overhead kick into next door's garden. He's not.

He's an incredibly simple and effective footballer. He see's a pass, see's a flick or such. He won't bang in 15 a season, not goals anyway. Assists? Expect them by the truck load.

the issue isnt with him necessarily my good sir...

so in this scenario of what does he do....how did eriksen get away from his marker to have enough room to pick out one of these people?

Did dembele ghosting past his man not actually crowd out eriksens position? by pulling the man he ghosted past towards eriksen? wouldnt a pass from dembele , a quick one with offensive awareness have been more likely to give eriksen more room to turn and figure out his next move?

not to mention all the options that he had to pass to...that would imply that we have overlapping midifelders running ahead of eriksen , it would imply that solly is timing things well, the opposition is NOT sitting deep and that quite frankly the transition movement of our players into attacking position is Arsenal-esq

then the potential issues i get with all those scenrios is not really all to do with eriksen its more like this

how did eriksen find his space:-The pace of the dutch league is 10000 shades slower than the prem. How sure can we be that he will have the time to have all those options? people press her like a pitbull seeing meat for the first time

dembele ghosting past his man rather than passing quickly: the former allows the opposition more time to shape up and organise, the latter doesnt and would help eriksen alot to have more time. only thing is that dembele sometimes delays his pass and doesnt make decisions as quickly as one would like

These marauding options of our players running ahead of eriksen:- we just dont play like that , AVB since i have seen all his games has had a very disciplined and structured approach...very methodical and tactical...and quite frankly..boring and uninspired and void of real options in the attacking area ...for us to suddenly have streams of people would be surprising seeing as we cant get support to solly in 3 whole games...

yeah mate its not really eriksen..its more the team and variables surrounding him. the funny thing is that wenger behind the helm of this 11 or Saf, then we are one of the favourites to win the league. simple. but Avb? i dont know.....i dont think he can actually get a deadly scary team out of this, i think he can get wins...and lots of them .......but i dot think that he can get us playing to the style that you would imagine

from the sounds of it it seems that eriksen would be in instant hit at the scum or swansea(its funny, but swansea play a possesion based game and yet they are so well drilled in the art of their style that they are very fluid in attack..and look potent too. their players are overall weaker than ours but play in the right system that highlights their abilities. we could have that, i think it will just take time.)
