Christian Eriksen

We see differently I guess. To me lamela has presence hassling players and using his physicality well enough. In return he attracts much more attention than eriksen, and overall is more involved. Though it doesn't amount to much, at least it's a street brawl in the opponents half not ours.

Both are underperforming and continued to underwhelm but I'm hopeful that they will kick on soon.

In comparing both we also need to remember that eriksen has had a full season under his belt, ahead of lamela.

Lamella does press well - not saying there isn't a place in this side for him, his energy is a plus but I don't think he can be relied on to come up with a moment of real quality the way Eriksen can. Don't get me wrong I'm supportive of Lamella but I just don't see his value to the team being near that of Eriksens. At this moment in time at least...

I don't see this supposed physical strength that Lamela has, he bounced off Benteke like a rag doll just before he was sent off last Sunday and gets brushed off the ball like Eriksen does

Personally I think Eriksen is one of the best players we have and would be the second person on the team sheet if I was the manager.

He has the skills and the brain to be our playmaker, pull the strings and run the game. But he needs to be played in a position where he can influence the game. He has to be central. and that makes it difficult in our current set up.

I don't think he is a natural #10. In this position he either receives the ball too high up the pitch, as a striker rather than a playmaker. So he doesn't get the opportunity to influence the game as much. Or he ends up dropping deeper into midfield to pick the ball up -and then we don't have anyone in the #10 slot ahead of him.

But when we've switched to a 4-4-2 - often when we are up against it, chasing a game - with Eriksen in the middle, he looks quality and the team looks better too. He always wants to get on the ball, and he reminds of Modric (but a Modric who can finish). He have very good vision, and he passes first time when there is pass on, and his instinct is to move the ball forwards rather than sideways. And I think he perfectly capable of putting his foot in tackle as well.

So I'd rather see Eriksen in a 4-4-2 or if Poch insists on playing a 4-2-3-1 then as a more advanced one of the 2 deeper midfielders. That means the other DM has to do a lot of defensive work, and I'm not sure if any of our current DMs are the right kind of player. Sandro was.

What will probably happen though, is that we won't play him centrally, we will continue to sub him off early, and he will leave, and develop and fulfil his potential somewhere else. While more mediocre players like Chadli, Townsend (sorry Andros), Capoue etc. will still be at Spurs.

Agree with this. We should build the team around him (whilst he is here and until he gets fed up with being subbed).

To be fair, most people would just bounce off of Benteke. As it was you could see Benteke put a fair amount of his weight into it

Benteke? The player that regularly dominates Premier League centre halves... That's who you're judging Lamela up against? Please find a better example to support your point...

Plenty of attacking midfielders in the Premier League and elsewhere that are very successful that are at best no stronger than Lamela physically (and I would argue quite a bit weaker).

Benteke hardly put anything into it. That's the most recent example. I can see why this is going, someone will ask me to find video evidence of Lamela being pushed off the ball. I won't be able to find one sadly as I don't store clips like some nerd who only watches football.

Not sure what matches you've been watching, but to suggest that Lamela regularly gets brushed off the ball really doesn't tally with what I've seen this season. As for Benteke; head over to YouTube and watch one of the compilation videos (something I did when there were rumours we were in for him). You'll see the likes of Gerrard and Terry "bounce off him". If you want to tell me that means they have no physical strength then fair enough... that's your opinion. Seems a bit barmy to me though.

I'll go in a slightly different direction. Why can't you tell me about the physical strength of players like Mata, Silva and Coutinho? Why is it Lamela has to get stronger whereas they don't?

Hang on a sec, did I see those players don't have to? I think Lamela AND Eriksen both have to toughen up a bit, both physically and mentally, same goes for most of our players to be blunt.

You think those players have to improve physically then? And what would be the next part of "they have to improve physically to..."? 28 year old Silva has twice been a key player for Emirates Marketing Project when winning the league and looks like one of the players they can't get adequate backup for despite their millions. One of the best players in the league. But he has to get stronger?

I really don't get what your point is... I thought the argument was that Lamela has to strengthen up to be a success? Is it just that it would be better if he was stronger, if so that's probably true for every player in the world.

Just slow down, I think you're getting a bit carried away. I didn't say he by toughening up he will become a success, to be honest, he needs to work on his final ball and overall end product above alll else. Just that I haven't noticed this supposed strength that he has. I don't think it would hurt if both him and Eriksen toughened up a bit that's all. It may be that both of them grow more physically resilient anyway as they both get use to the physicality of the league.

Eriksen would work best in a diamond IMO...just to say, anyone who thinks Modric was ever 'light-weight' wasn't paying attention!

Anyway...it should be no problem at all for Eriksen to take a breather and re-up himself. He is, as everyone has said, only 22. As for the crossbar challenge, look, Bentley could dump a ball in a skip from **** knows where, and popped a 40 yarder against the goons, but raw skill and knowing how to apply it to it's ultimate are different things. Obviously Eriksen is years removed from Bentley's attitude, but I want to see him achieve what he can achieve as a player, and for me, this requires some dedicated work and re-focus/determination on his part.

I wouldn't use the phrase light weight with Modric, I do remember being frustrated with him shying out of tackles on occasion though

Time to play him back on the left. On his day he's easily our best player.

Eriksen Kane Chadli should be our three behind the striker.

Ran the game once he moved into central midfield. Surely his future is there.

He did well, but remember, this was against 10 men who dropped way, way back from the ball. I don't see him performing any miracles from the middle under normal circumstances, though any human on earth would struggle to do worse than the likes of Dembele.

who was it on the lob sided left then? i thought that was eriksen....

dude ..it was wonky i tell thee!!!!...we played it perfectly...granted the extra man helped but all the same as far as options go the wonky worked a treat once lennon came on

Good 2nd half but I agree that Eriksen needs to start imposing himself on games when he's up against 11 men...
