Clement Lenglet

If we sign a commanding CB to replace Dier then Lenglet and Romero either side of the new guy would give decent balance. I'm assuming tht the new man actually wants us to hold the ball more than Conte did

If we go to a back 4, Lenglet would be CB cover, which is also fine

Never understood the dislike which some have for him

I'm desperately clinging to the hope that we'll announce Ndicka on a free as soon as his season finishes.

I don't get Lenglet at all. He just reminds me of Richardo Rocha.
Don't clubs generally announce freebies in January on a pre contract? Would that suggest we haven't?

I'd be happy keeping Dier as our 3rd CB - he's more than adequate for that and a good leadership influence. But we definitely need a new starter alongside Romero, and a new prospect as 4th choice (moving beyond Tanganga)
Dier needs to go as well. We need an overhaul of our CBs. Romero is the only one we should be keeping. I know it’s not as simple as that but just feels strange to be signing Lenglet and offering possible contract renewals when there’s no manager in place. Especially as they are both not good enough.

I don't agree with extending Dier

If you were looking at logic -> sell Sanchez, Tanganga, Rodon, I would include Dier in that list. That means 4 CB's out
Which would leave you -> Romero, Davies (who may or may not have a LWB role)
Even if you bought two new CB's, one top level/leader type, there would be a logic to getting Lenglet in for £14M as cover, knows team/system

I see the logic in that. At least two new CBs is a must this summer. Along with a few other positions. All feels a mess at the minute. Well it is a mess .

Fake news, I've read on here written as gospel that no clubs in mainland Europe have a pot to tinkle in.

Not sure about the Lenglet reports, if we plan to continue in a back three then it possibly makes sense. However a pairing of him / Romero or Diet doesn't necessarily fill me with great hope unless there's real protection from a monster DM in front of them, which we don't have.

Can you give me an example of when Dier showed good leadership. It is an often used soundbite used about him that I think people say without thinking.

I have seen him point to where players should be, but more often then not it leads to a goal. I don't think he reads the game well or understands tactics. He actually comes across like a thicko, like one of those big rugby players that try to make out there clever but you can tell they are really not.

Weird
I’ve seen him talk about his interests outside of football and they would fall into the bracket of someone investing time in educating themselves … a strong trait

I’ll give an example of his leadership if it helps. Have you watched all or nothing? He calls out dele for dele not calling out a player he had an issue with. That’s leadership. Make people accountable

If this is the level of CB we are seriously considering then we have issues. Especially as there’s no manager at the club. Makes no sense to me.

We need far better. Some will say oh he’s a decent back up etc. Fella can’t defend Simple as. Worrying stuff coming from the club if it’s true they are going to offer Dier a new contract too. Bang Average

Hopefully we've leaked this to make him play his best for the rest of the season. Then announce Ndicka in the summer and than lenglet for his service.

The defenders look brick because they are under constant pressure every minute of every game. If we play a system where we dominate games, i’m sure these players will be noticeably better.

The system doesn't help anyone

- Dier & Sanchez have had their chances/run, time to move on
- Lenglet people are missing the fact that he came from not having a lot of game time, adjusting to league, in that perspective and for the cost, I'd take a punt on squad depth knowing we are already going to need to ship 4 out, minimum 2 in.

For me to be on board with this:
Sanchez must be first out the door.
Lenglet must not be seen as the first team solution i.e. we must spend real money on a quality LCB.

Not really. They still have to play for their old club. Why upset the fans letting them know the player will be going to a certain club in the summer? For the signing club you still have a player playing in that position. Why upset them knowing you are bringing in a replacement in the summer. No benefit really of announcing it.

And yet Lenglet looked a poor defender in a Barcelona team that dominated most matches. So poor in fact that they are desperate to get rid.
