Clement Lenglet

Ranking system was codified in 1992, in the excellent Premier Manager game,

Fair
Good
Very Good
Superb
World Class
Exceptional
The Ultimate

We've had a few Ultimate players, let alone the third tier World Class ones.

We can offer a salary all Serie A, La Liga(except Barca&Real), Bundesliga(except Bayern), Ligue 1(except PSG) teams can't. So basically outside of the PL, there are only about 4 teams all over Europe that can pay what we can pay for a world class defender.

Funny thing, Aymeric Laporte is not even world class but he still turned us down

For the record I have never once on this forum said we must go out and sign a world class player. Spurs do not need to sign world class defenders, we just need to sign players with potential, players with a high ceiling.

Consider the following players - Vinicius Junior (Madrid), Bale (Spurs), Kevin De Bryne (Emirates Marketing Project), Salah (Liverpool), Benzema (Madrid), Henry (Goons), Drogba (Chelski) - none of them were world class when they were signed by the named clubs, but they all had potential.

So on the basis that Messi was on "The Ultimate" list, remind me as to who we have had on a similar level, I am curious?

And how come exceptional is above world class?

For the record there is no such thing as "third tier world class", you are either world class or you are not.

Lamela
Bale
Kane
Son
Eriksen

World class is the third tier of footballer, it just means good enough for international football, which is the third tier of football.

If you honestly believe that world class means just good enough for international football then you must live alone in your own little footballing universe, a universe where Eric Dier with 49 international caps is world class. You mate, have truly lost the plot. But coming from a chap who honestly believes Lamela is world class, should i be surprised? But seriously, what have you been sniffing mate?

Not alone, the levels are clearly defined, as they were by early 90’s computer management sim players, the highest authority.

Outside those historic power houses or those with bottomless money, who has really purchased a ready made world class talent? It’s as rare as rocking horse sh1t TBH. I think people lose sight of the club Spurs are and historically have been on large most of our existence

I’m lost. So this fella is having a fit because we have not signed Messi or Ronaldo in the last 20 years.

Get to fudge fudging clown.

Laporte has just won the UCL and PL and the source might not be true. All our big flops recently were not world class players. În my opinion, if we can get a world class CB then we should take him.

In the nicest possible way, I think it’s just trolling at this point. Anyone who rates Dier and Lamela that highly clearly doesn’t watch much football or is trolling.

Why did you ask the question then?

Klinsnanns rep was down a bit when we got him, he’d had a mixed time at Monaco who were happy to let him go.

Yes it was massive, and credit to Sugar for getting it done, but he wasn’t a “Messi” at the time, that would have been Baggio.

He'd underperformed at Inter too to be fair. It was his international profile that was keeping him world class.

I was simply responding to:

When was the last time Lenglet was mentioned in this thread? Excuse my ignorance but I don’t fancy scrolling back 10 pages to find the answer.

And it is not like Lenglet is World Class, right :D

I have been guilty of prolonging this particular discussion but I think that is enough from me.
