Contingency planning : If Ange is sacked, who should replace him?

The key to everything is the quality of the players we recruit.
It doesn't matter if it is Ange or Potter or Pep, if we recruit poor/weak/injured players we will be sh.it, and if we recruit really well, we'll be right up there and really good.

So for me, unless Ange does something insane, it is best to focus on good recruitment, that is the key to everything.
There must be 1000 players on our radar. Some aren't good enough. Some are overpriced. Some can elevate us and are the right price. Just gotta find them.

But it's also how many of those players you can integrate quickly, look at threads, Ange doesn't play/integrate Spence, Moore, Lankshear, Reguilon, etc .. ignoring that since he's started -> Vic, Udogie, VDV, Dragusin, Johnson, Maddison, Solanke have been integrated, how many more can you actually do?

Players have to learn systems, they have to build partnerships, they have to improve their own games, adding 2-3 players to a squad is absolutely doable, changing 7-10? it will create challenges, it will lead to inconsistencies, and that is part of what we see.

He'll likely be the next one a bigger club takes a chance on, last two clubs he's done well

Wiki view -> Iraola favours a 4–3–3/4–3–2–1 formation with a focus on quick ball recoveries. With quick wingers, tireless midfield runners and a defensive midfielder who tends to drop deep when building from the back when the full-backs push forward

He is Poch Mk2
Could see that last season

What about coaches like Iriola I’ve been massively impressed with what he is doing with bang average players at Bournemouth. He seems to get his teams playing well, improves players and gets results.

What's his in-game management like?
Irrelevant IMO because most fans say their manager doesnt do enough
People forget Poch was really bad at subs ans in game changes as was Conte, Jose and every manager… apart from Arry

But to be factual, they make the most dish of any team, score the most late goals and I believe also have the most subs scorers (the last bit may be out of date now)

I think he is great
Could see after 6 months what he was doing

Could he do it playing every 4 days. Not sure but I think so. However …: no manager can really do anything with 14 senior players, including any in game management

Bad just means not doing what I want or would do.

If he comes in for next season I don’t think he’ll need to concern himself with Europe.
Just like Ange in his first season then. Even if that doomsday scenario is true, would work out perfectly for the cycle - Hype up the manager for being great in first season and a breath of fresh air with no real focus beyond the league, then back to reality second season when we are juggling Europe and we realise this guy too isn't the messiah who has naff all experience juggling European football and belittle his managerial achievements that don't stem beyond winning the Cypriot Cup. Bump the Contingency planning thread and start suggesting the next set of managers who look much better than our current manager without having the same pressure or game volume to contend with. Rinse and repeat....

Iriola makes sense - has got a lesser set of players able to play an attacking brand of football successfully (in relation to their position) and importantly has done so in the PL - I think there's some parallels there with Pochettino and he made the step up here so that's a good sign. Redknapp too come to think of it, proved himself in the PL with lesser clubs/teams playing attacking football - I'd be happy with that as a marker for any potential manager

Keep defending with a suicidally high line; ask players to constantly play and train on the limit; sustain injuries as a result; refuse to alter tactics despite the opposition, game situation or level of injury; aim to win games only by outscoring free-scoring opposition; record inconsistent results, frequently appearing to have turned a corner only for major setbacks to follow; rinse and repeat.

Either way, there doesn’t appear to be any easy answers, unfortunately.

Yeah all systems and managers have their weaknesses, if they didn't they sure as hell wouldn't be at Spurs. Rest assured we will find plenty to whinge about irrespective of whether it's Ireola or someone else. That article you posted, you could find plenty of similar ones on Angeball. I'll never forget the write ups I was reading on Hassenhutl, I was thinking fudge me how did Southampton get him we should go for him next. The fact is these managers always sound great and the next big thing - until it turns out they aren't....
