Danny Rose

fudging hell this guy is a cretin. The club is in a state of flux, problems abound and Danny sticks his head up and says "I'm just gonna see out my contract and there's nothing you can do about it". That's exactly what every Spurs fan wants to hear right now when the mentality of players at the club is being questioned. We were worried it was toxic, that players were looking elsewhere and not putting the work in and here Danny is saying "that's me" with a couldn't give two bricks what you think look on his face.

I know we can argue that so long as he puts in good displays we'll be on good terms, but if he doesn't (which he's not atm), it's not because he's going through a bad patch etc but because he couldn't care less. And if he finds himself not playing he'll still probably have a whinge about that too.

Cmon
You can surely admit that Davies has been woeful this season
But their may be reasons

He has not long been back from injury and i do not think he has played much this season. He has not played well i agree but i am searching to find anyone who has. Overall ( imo) Davies is the better player.

I prefer rose but a fit and able Davies can be a great player

but the last two games he has been poor with the balks whcih I get as rustiness

but his positioning has been woefully bad, playing as a CB and LB at the same time for some reason and failing. That’s not form

Why hasn't his ability elevated him to the top? Rose has kept ahead of him. Davies is a model pro. Decent defensively (most of the time). Uninspiring going forward. Rose has more bite. More drive and determination. From what I have seen.

On the one hand I completely agree with you, on the other isn’t it interesting that he is almost completely backing Poch? Like if the idea is that he wants to cause a stir and play into the friction, he’d go for Poch too right? But he isn’t?

this is just Danny being Danny, and an example of how a footballer’s mindset completely differs from that of a fans’. We just get more of an insight into it from Rose because he shoots from the hip. But it challenges these ideas of there being certain players that have stopped playing for Poch, ir creating a bad atmosphere, and suggests the rot is somewhere else.

interestingly I think if Poch was being honest, Rose is one of the players he’d want gone. But the fact that he has to play the good cop to the Board’s bad cop says a lot about where we are as a club. A really awkward transition period with Poch walking a tightrope.

he’s absolutely adding to a media circus when he doesn’t need to, and that is annoying in and of itself. But Danny isn’t doing it maliciously, he’s doing it because he doesn’t think about these things. And I think it shows that footballers think about different things that fans do. And developing that, because we don’t fully understand their mindsets, I think there is more going on in the club that we just don’t understand as yet.

Agreed.

What like leaving him off the pre-season tour and telling the press it is so he can find another club?

Come on Milo. Poch has clearly failed to send the right signal to the player at the right time; any world class manager would’ve got him a one-way ticket to Lesbos on easyjet, driven him to the airport, made sure he boarded the plane and planted drugs on him so as he was arrested and banged up! Shamefully sloppy management!

Or, as I said in my response to Milo, not play him so much once the season started, especially as he’s not playing well. (He’s our fourth most played player in the PL so far.)

No doubt it’s a tough position for Poch to be in though, and we only get a tiny window into what‘s going on. Maybe if Poch wasn’t playing Rose he would still insist on seeing out his contract out of spite / stubbornness, and that might have an even more negative impact on the team.

It does seem to me like Poch is overcompensating for his earlier comments about the team being fractured, and is now desperately trying to make everyone still feel part of the team.

Edit: having read the quotes again, maybe Poch could be doing more to get Rose at the door:

'When the manager stops calling me into his office, stops giving me advice, that’s when I’ll think it’s time to leave Tottenham but, until then, I’m not going anywhere. I’m lucky to have a manager at Tottenham who, from the first day we met, has always stuck by me, regardless of anything, regardless of the rubbish in the media about me being sold or not part of his plans – all that nonsense.'

I honestly think if Danny is the last remaining contract rebel here next year, he does get bombed to the reserves and not played as much. Right now, he’s got a lot of mates in the squad. But if he’s the last one, I think he gets bombed, and we then give him a decision to make. Year in the reserves or go and play up north for Burnley, because you ain’t coming back into our team. Danny may think he has the power, but that is only due to Poch’s pragmatism right now.

"IF" any of this is fact, it is a damning indictment of Levy's (I'm a huge fan) overseeing/handling of all things squad transition.

Or maybe Poch thinks he is his best left back

Easy as a journalist to pick where you put the quotation marks and which bits you include or leave out.

Not saying that's happened here, but I'm sure we've all seen instances of one interview being reported differently across different outlets.

I just wish he wouldn't use England duty to make noise about his club (although as @Bedfordspurs mentions above, the same words could be reported with a very different meaning, however I'm not convinced Rose was being quite so positive).

The thing for me with this (and Bedfords point on it) is if Rose has been deliberately and completely misrepresented - he should, and indeed would, put things straight. Many people do.

This is what? The third round of Roses "straight talking"? And not once has he taken the opportunity to correct things.

Which leads me to thinking - how and what he said is exactly as reported.

And that he always does it on England duty give the impression of it being deliberate as well. With the Tottenham press officer on hand he doesnt get the chance, does he?

So while I dont hold it against him wanting to see out his contract - it is his right - I do have a big problem with his repeated attempts to disrupt the club and bring negativity and scrutiny upon it at the worst possible times.

He is just doing what most players will be doing going forward. He and others are doing a Ramsey.
Clubs have to get smarter and write a workaround into contracts going forward.

I see none of the people on this site throwing away 18-months salary and a biggish/ huge (for us) signing on fee so we should not be so hypocritical. Because none of us would give up £1 million +++? for the love of this club.

How is this an attempt to disrupt the club?

'In January, you're probably going to hear something [about my future]. I'm telling you right now that I'm not going anywhere until my contract is finished.

'[Chairman] Daniel Levy told me in the summer there was no new contract for me at Tottenham, which is fine. I respect that. We move on.

'I know what people were trying to do in the summer... There were no bids - that was rubbish.'

He has quite clearly stated his position and the clubs, and has attempted to negate any future transfer speculation which is actually disruptive to the club. Everyone knows where they stand. Had Eriksen come out and said this people would probably be applauding it, but as its easy target Danny Rose its as if he's said something outrageous.....
