Danny Rose

Ok lets agree to disagree. I’m about as racist as Heidi Klum, given my fiancee is from Guatemala.

I fully agree that systematic racism exists and many police officers are as much if a bunch of qunts as Danny Rose.

I haven't said that you are a racist. I think that you've said something racist.

A black person has as much right to drive their car without being stopped by the police as anyone else and expecting them to change their car to stop it is unreasonable and racist.

I agree but would like to know the amount of times a white or older person has been stopped in the same car.

I think that would back up the racism rose experiences. I dont like rose, he is a whinny prick.

There are plenty of stats on black people being stopped by the police. They are drastically more likely to be stopped and young black men even more so.

As a sidenote, I think we (as a society) need a new language to have these kinds of discussions. I think the word 'racist' is SO charged and full of shame and taboo that anyone who isn't a full on KKK-type racist will just be irritated and defensive in response to that word being used against them in any way. Which acts in complete opposition to them being reflective and open-minded, and so is completely counterproductive to the aim of actually reducing racism.

(Not an attack on you Milo, just something I've been thinking about recently).

There is an important distinction between saying that someone is a racist and that they said something racist. Unfortunately, most of us will say something racist at some point either through ignorance or choice. The best thing to do is to reflect on it when it is pointed out.

HA, calm down. This is what's wrong with the internet. I say something which is far from racist and all of a sudden you're off and running with ridiculous tangents.

Famous people use tinted windows to avoid the public eye. If Rose is sick of the police pulling him over its a justifiable response. Make it impossible for the police to see him. If you want get all KKK or BLM about this can I suggest moving this to another thread. I couldn't give a fcuk if Rose or Ben Davies gets hassled by the police to be honest. If I had a Ferrari I'd expect it too. Rose complains too much about every aspect of being a footballer. I'm tired of hearing about it.
I didn’t say you were being racist. And lots of people complain about their jobs. If people were allowed to insult me as part of my job I would be less than thrilled. And just because he gets paid to do a job many of us would love to do doesn’t mean he can’t complain.

Yeah i know that but i mean more specifically the car, are they also stopping the car. If they dont stop the car when an old white guy is driving it which i suspect they are not then their profiling.

I would prefer the police used more targeted intelligence then just stopping a young black guy in an expensive car.

I agree there's a distinction, but I think it gets lost in the heat of the moment. And I totally agree that the best thing to do is to reflect on it - but I think that's less likely to happen when the word 'racist' is being thrown at you, particularly in anything resembling an antagonistic way. And I'd say your exchange with awesome dawson feels like a typical example of exactly that, despite everyone's good intentions.

what gets my scrote is the young plod go all SWAT team after they have stopped the cars!
trying to prove they are tough guys!

Best post over the last couple of pages.

So what you are saying is that the police are making assumptions about whether Rose can afford to drive his car based on the colour of his skin. That's systematic racism.

Saying that Rose should have to change his car to prevent this, is also racist.
Whilst there is clearly some element of racial profiling that happens (one does sometimes hear similar stories from black professionals in suits), I find the police in the UK overwhelmingly classist more than anything else. In terms of focusing on where they are likely to find criminals, that makes a lot of sense.

Do you know for a fact that Rose was always wearing a tracksuit when pulled over?
I've seen a fair number of photos of him outside of football and he's always very clearly working class.

May not have been wearing a tracksuit but might have been wearing a baseball cap (reason enough for an arrest itself).

Or a gold chain onbtop of a t shirt, saw a white guy in my village the other day dressed like this. To say i was furious is an understatement.

I understand and largely agree. I'm not really sure how you can point out that someone has said something racist without using that word.

I think you need to type a waaaay longer sentence and frame it as something like "Whilst I am certainly not saying that you are a racist, some people may feel that what you just said could be construed as racist because you focused on the individual's actions or inactions rather than overtly mentioning the systemic racism which profiles black men in expensive cars. I doubt that you yourself are racist, but you should be careful not to blah blah blah"

Rather than saying "It is racist to blame the victim for systematic racism."

Can’t tell whether or not you’re being sarcastic, but I actually agree!

To be honest, I wasn't giving a lot of thought to sensitivities and just pointing out facts.

I don't actually think Dawson has been racist personally. Black people in the US recently outlined how they have 'that talk' with their kids about how to act if a policeman pulls them over. They are not being racist for adjusting their behaviour to reality.

Anyhooo....I think Don Levy will extract 7 million for Rose. And he's probably worth it. At that price, if we can't sign anyone better, I would be tempted to keep him.
