The issue at the ground ain’t the “tourists”
It’s typically the guy who is hard working to pay for their ticket then complains if things ain’t going well that they paid £100 fudging quid for it. They have a right to complain ins guess but pick and choose when and where
The new protests are gonna be the same as the old ones
Fair play, someone is trying to do something
I just would like to know what the something is.

Yeh and I get that 100% from that perspective as I said for why I gave up my ticket, value for money in football ain't there (I get others don't want to give it up) but their anger is pointing at wrong people.

Ironically there is a twitter account TottenhamTix who runs an extensive touting scheme with his cousin Saul, they sell loads of tickets and packages in hospitality to anyone who will buy, including Koreans, low and behold one of them started then taking photos of them in hospitality coating them off. Just makes no sense to me. They are also front and centre of protests about it

I only have one minor complaint about the tourists in that I don’t think the atmosphere has been great at the Europa games, probably not helped by the fact that none of the games were sellouts.

I think alot is exasperated by people just not going IMO. I paid for City in the LC in semi posh seats for the free tucker and felt it was a mash up of people not going or not thinking we would go through

I get football is quite expensive now but you really are paying out for potential. What could potentially happen. You buy-in because it could give you the memories of your life. And it has. Not one season ticket holder moaned about the cost of a season ticket in our last season at the Lane.

You take the rough with the smooth...you can't 'value' something like this on outcomes.

Exactly, all very well shouting Levy/Postercoglu out but what do they have as an alternative apart from the undefined bountyful billionaire and a manager guaranteed to win something within 2 years like Mourinho or Conte.

Great post especially the bolded bit i am a old fart and i have had some bad memories [ like all fans have], however i have GREAT memories of games and travels that will live with me to the grave.

Not to be dramatic but I think the game looks stale in many respects, the quality is on the floor in comparison to before, its athletics with some quality, teams generally set up exactly the same now, I watch three games at the weekend and all three could have been the other game, there is a really lack of star quality, individuality and any kind of identity to much of it.

I touched on it before about why I jacked my ST in but I just in fairness got bored of the sport in general and there not being value in it. In the 1990s and 2000's I walked away from games we lost and despite being gutted thought "stone me Gerrard was out of this world" *change name for Rooney, Suarez, Mendieta where needed as an example.

I don't think at its best the products worth what its being sold us, its being bought on loyalty and by fans who find it new and fresh and fair play to them for finding it that and wanting to be a part of it, I find it all abit same same

Everyone is in a different place on their journey, thats where I am. I still care and love the club of course, I don't care for the product generally anymore

I long for the game I loved playing and watching, both teams trying to win, mistakes were made but I accepted its all part of the game and adds excitement, now virtually every away team set out not to lose and games fall into the same pattern, add the experts in media analysing everything they think is important with their toys and stats and the game loses magic and becomes a process where efficiency is more Important than flair.

Talking about bad times, what about the kick-off times and all these additional minutes that get added on nowadays?

I'm in Berkshire and have 6 mates that have ST's. They're always complaining about the lack of Sat 3pm games. Then you have the public transport restrictions meaning they can't even stay until the end of a weekday game without piling on taxi expenses at this end. Add on the Thurs / Sun EL thing and it's quite disruptive.

I guess the tourists stay in London and when the ST holder can't deal with another mission to get to and from the game, they'll happily buy the tickets.

Yeh and look things change, I get it, its what it is, but I feel I am a fairly spritely 42 and growing up watching sides that had nearly 6 world class entertaining players in the CL to now not seeing a handful in the whole game. That element of maverick is nearly all but gone and the element of someone doing something out of the ordinary I just don't see it much anymore, its nearly all but been trained out the game which is fine. I wanna see finesse on the ball not people that can run 25mph for much of the game.......

Give me flair any day

I think that aligns with the common tactical complaint the players are just like robots these days, and there's definitely some truth in that. It's samey. That has made it more competitive down the league though.

The other off-putting factor is the noise around the game...since SM it's on steroids...and because SM is largely based in negativity and outrage (as well as untruths) how would that add to a positive experience. It so relentless the 90/180 mins of actual football is almost passed by when in practice that's the only nailed on reality we see every week.

Last couple of seasons I've been to watch my local team (isthmian premier league) quite a bit, and this season a lot more.
I played at that level when I was younger, so I'm not sure if it's nostalgia, or just a more wholesome, heartwarming experience. A community feeling, and acceptance that many people at the club are sacrificing a lot and doing the best they can. You might call it an antidote to constantly hearing that everyone is useless, not good enough, brick, a clam all of the time :)

Do you not see the sub-plot between the 90s and now though?

What has happened over the decades is that the officiating has changed so much, and the dark arts are winning over football. Referees don't use the laws of the game anymore. They don't even make players come over to them and give them a talking down. They let all the infringements go and we're now seeing all the centre midfield maestros have to move out to the wide areas because you just can't do what Gerrard did back in the day. The managers plan all of their tactics based on what can be got away with and train their players that way all the way down to kids football.

The product is now dull as ditchwater. You don't even get the pundits talking about the skills in the game anymore. They're just talking about contentious decisions and VAR. I find it thoroughly boring if I'm honest. You get the odd piece of magic like Lamela's goal this week, but most of it is just a polluted down product. The last thing is that the companies like Sky think they are a bigger product than the actual 22 players, 2 goalposts and ball. They've lost the plot in this area.

FIFA, UEFA, PL etc have a lot to answer for. I'm not even including The FA as they have no empowerment left anyway as the broadcasting companies only work with the other organisations.
