So apparently and what is going to come out is Lamela is in fact in bad head space and is homesick.
I don't see this ending with Lamela staying with us

I think it's slightly different; i think the injury happened and then his brother had a bad accident (some rumours say he is in a wheelchair) and that Lamela has been depressed due to that and that has impacted his recovery.
Apparently the trip to Rome was for a change of scenery to get his spirits up and the hope would be his spirits being up would aid his physical recovery.
Time will tell. I'm still hopeful he'll be back before the end of the season, but if his brother is in a really bad way it could have a big effect (he is a long way from home after all...)
Oh good, didn't know that.Axel was in a wheelchair but he's publicly put up a couple of pictures of him out of the chair now.
Like a new signing?just sounds like a couple of things going on in his personal life which has been compounded by the injury layoff, hopefully he can get back to fitness for the run-in, fresh legs will make a huge difference
This all sounds like putting 2 and 2 together. He is getting seen by the Roma doctor so they think he wants to return. To be honest he works hard, he is good for the team. But he was supposed to be a Bale replacement. Come in off the wing and get goals. 8 Goals in the premier league tells you the story of his true impact. He is a good player, he works hard. But he has not hit the heights of the season he had in Rome.
If they offered what we paid I would take it and re-invest in another skillful winger. I would like Mahrez or Arnautovic. Proven premier performers with output that are used to working hard too.
I think we are the ones that assumed he would be a Bale replacement, and let's face it that is quite a difficult player to replace and perhaps an unfair expectation!
He is not responsible for the transfer fee, but I would argue that we have got as much out of him as Chelsea have Willian, who was the one we were going to get. He's not our best player, but he is by no means the worst, and I think that in order to upgrade we would have to pay a much more significant sum of money than we have, or are prepared to pay. Players like Bolasie who have much less end product are going for £25m!
I think that he is on the whole underrated, and under performing. He has performed well (scored 11 goals and assisted 9) last season with just under half of those goals coming in the EPL. I think he should be scoring 10 in the league and assisting the same and to be fair he is not far off that. I'm not ready to write him off as I think there is the potential there, but it is the mentality that I like. He works hard, is not a prima donna, and seems to be a good player to have around the squad (his comments in the league run in last season I thought were good to have).
And there is the problem for some, i have said on here before he is not to be blamed for the fee we paid but there are some who can not see past that. The same is being said/done about Sissoko and its nothing to do with the players.
Yes I agree. Willian was bought for the same amount of money, but I would argue that Lamela's output is at least the same if not better. However, he took longer to get there.
The thing is, in the position that he plays in, I would want 10 goals and the same in assists. He's not far from that already and still only 24, so why sell unless you think he will never achieve that.

His stats are very similar to Willian but I think Willian is a much better player If I'm honest.
I largely agree with Sandman, in no rush to to sell Lamela but if someone were to come in for a similar fee to what shelled out for him 3 and a half years ago, I would quite happily take it. Not sure who would pay that kind of money in this country but a team like Juve might take a punt.
Perhaps the Bale comparison is unfair but the impression I got when we signed him was that he was the most likely player to replace him in Bale's position.
He's overrated on this forum IMO but it will be good to see him back in the squad. Can't honestly see where he fits in to the team with new formation Poch has adopted recently though.
That's fair enough Jurgen. It's interesting that you see that Willian is a much better player even if the stats are similar as the main criticism on here (and not from you I don't think) is that he doesn't score enough. Just out of curiosity, why do you think Willian is a much better player?
He doesn't lose the ball as often, he's a better dribbler, has better feet and also works hard like Lamela. He was Chelsea's only decent player last season when almost every one else in the team had the worst season of their careers.
