I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Baring long term injury I both hope and expect he can score at least 15 goals in all competition this season, particular as he needs just another 11 to go.

It's a tie with Moura for me. As good as he is Lamela has the tendency to be reckless and earn stupid yellows. Like he did yesterday.

What are you on about dude? He whacked that cheating git Sergio Busquets on the back of the head, which was well deserved, there is nothing reckless about that. Tell me you think that cheatin' mofo did not deserve it.

Not for me I want us to keep 11 players on the pitch.

It was an unnecessary yellow. That happens to most players that play a high intensity, aggressive, combative style. Sometimes the level of aggression is a bit too high. It's a tight line to walk, sometimes you get it wrong.

I'd say Lamela is rather good at playing on a yellow, adjusting his game and stay on the pitch. Looking at whoscored.com he has a total of 33 yellows for us and Roma without a single red card.

There's a downside to playing on a yellow, even if you're not sent off. But for me the benefit of his aggressive style is easily greater than the downside.

Of course he could improve on the not picking up unnecessary yellows aspect of his game, but if we're talking slightly wider about improving on getting aggression levels just right there are other players in our squad where there's more room for improvement imo.

This - I’m always amazed and amused by his ability to get an early yellow, almost on purpose, but never a second! He has it down to a fine art.

He's the guvnor. He needs to be on the pitch for his skill and application, let alone setting the standard of effort required.
Notwithstanding injury management, I want to see him starting the games that matter.

His tackling is what makes him the asset he is, opposition players are never sure he hard or dirty he will be so have limited choices.
Compare to Erikson and son who don't tackle but try and block passing lanes, it's low risk for the opposition.
Not denigrating Erikson or son, its not their game and they bring other talents to the table and work their bottoms off.

In his career Lamela has had 33 yellow cards and 0 reds. He knows exactly where the line is, or how not to get caught anyway. He's very smart.

And I expect that is exactly what Poch is after. Subtle in execution and knowing when to rein it in. Efficiently effective.

Tottenham fans react to Erik Lamela's display against Barcelona

It was a brilliant second-half display from Tottenham after they barely landed a punch during the first 45 minutes. And Lamela's display was a catalyst for their recovery.

The Argentinian often looked to be Spurs' most dangerous player and it was probably not surprise that cramp seemed to force him off as he never seemed to stop running. The display certainly managed to spark his side into life, and a number of fans are now urging Pochettino to hand him a league start for the first time this season at the weekend.

Here is what some of the supporters made of Lamela's superb display...

Lamela has turned into the player we thought we bought. Ran his socks off tonight and now he’s added goals to his game. So happy to see him like this at last

Home. The heart shown in the 2nd half was brilliant. Hugo was indifferent. Lamela brilliant. Ref was woeful. Still love you Spurs

But anyways... Lamela is a GHod, Kane broke Semedo's ankles, Winksy was solid, Sanchez was poor, having Eriksen and Dele woulda been great... but yeah...

Lamela was class

Kane much better today, he pressed the whole game but he did drop deep a bit too much but it’s because Eriksen wasn’t playing

Lamela has easily been our best player this season, he always gives 1000%
I’ve always stand up for him, I see some ex Lamela haters loving him now

Lamela stood out once again tonight. Always wanted the ball and willing to make things happen. That’s what I want to see from our players. Real shame about the start and end! COYS

Uefa announce Erik Lamela scored the 8,000th Champions League goal after ‘database error’ accidentally handed honour to Antoine Griezmann

---------------------------------------

Well done to Lamela for scoring against Barcelona which is the 8,000th Champions League goal. Lamela was easily our best player against Barcelona and is our player of the season so far. He now has 4 goals and 3 assists in his 6 matches for us so far this season. He has also scored for 3 matches in a row, in 3 different competitions. He deserves to start all our matches as long as he is fit.

It was great to see Lamela scoring against Messi and Barcelona. Remember, Lamela was once called the "new Messi" and Barcelona wanted to sign him when he was 12 years old. But he stayed in Argentina and later went to Roma in Italy. He was doing well in Roma before joining Spurs. It was probably a big mistake to join Spurs as English Premier League have always been too tough for South American players. He probably would have reached higher levels like Messi, Aguero or other Argentinian players if he had stayed in Italy or went to Spain. Instead, it has been struggles all the way for Lamela in England until now. Let's hope he will continue his current great form to show his true potential to the world.
