Jan Vertonghen

Against Monaco he wasn't. And Poch let him know it.

And that's always been the problem with Vertonghen. You can't rely on him.
He has a habit of going to ground high up the pitch with tackles he thinks he can make but doesnt.
And he loves pushing players and holding on to jerseys.
The penalty he give up on Wednesday against Holland was embarrassing.

On his day he's brilliant but he's inconsistent.
He does have those flaws but on the contrary he is quite a good and consistent defender. He's mostly good with the odd bad game. Our defensive record speaks for itself.

Started all 11 games in the league for us this season. We have the best defensive record in the league this season. Despite losing his CB partner that so many seem to rate higher than him. Started 29 league games for us last season. We had the best defensive record in the league, tied with Manu.

Imagine what we would do if Vertonghen could be relied on and was consistent... Oh wait, that's exactly what he is! But even consistent centre backs make occasional mistakes.

He is very consistent and miles better than 99% of the centre backs in this league

I'm sure he will make mistakes, he is human after all but as highlighted above he is part of the best defence arguably in Europe now and that's not a fluke

Could not agree more, he made some really important challenges/tackles against the Spammers and he was one of our better players in the game( again).

Made some crucial tackles and interceptions during some of their counter attacks at 2-1 when we were pushing men forward. A lot of centre backs that would struggle in those kinds of situations I think.

I agree with that. Top player who with Toby is one of the best partnerships i have seen in a very long time.

Our most consistent player this season, and has really stepped up this season in Tobys absence. Previous year he was also a bit error prone but not this year (this is probably something I should not have written :) Ill take the blame if he has a brain fart against Chelsea)

Can't see him leaving - also think he'll struggle a bit without Toby, tbh. He's best placed here - or, alternatively, teams could take a punt on a world-class CB pairing by buying them both for 150 million or whatever we'll be demanding. :p

Like Keane and Berbatov they are worth much more together than they ever are apart.

Love it. Get em signed up.

In his 5th season, wow, where does the time go? Flying up the appearances charts, 179, should be 200 by May
