Jan Vertonghen

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

Sour gripes, if you ask me.

But this is the guy that rejected Arsenal for Spurs because Wenger wanted to play him in midfield. He came here becuase he was promised to play centre half. Now Barcelona are sniffing around. I can't see him staying around too much longer tbh.

If we snag De Boer i wonder if that would convince him to stay.

It's all going to unravel, isn't it? How very tottenham.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

Unlike a lot of us, I don't have a problem with a manager playing a defensive style, or something not typically Spurs, but it has to be effective. I can't really say that AVB's style was effective in the league so far this season. We started ok, but seemed to start sliding backwards in terms of being defensively solid, whilst always struggling with creativity. For our points haul last season, it's tough to look past Bale blasting us home -- we still had the same struggles in attack, although we were a bit better defensively (no 0-3 or 0-5 home losses or 6-0 away defeats). We have made very little progress with our system or style of play, certainly not compared to Rodgers, Pochettino or Martinez.

That being said, I'd quite like to see Bielsa offered the gig. Not just because he's attack minded, I just fancy his methods to be effective in this league, at a club with our resources. It'd be f**king interesting!

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

We should be building the team around Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Sandro, Lennon, Soldado and Lamela with Verts as captain

I'd add Eriksen to that list. I just think he may blossom like a beautiful flower under the right coach (De Boer).

Jan Vertonghen ✔ @Jan_Vertonghen

Another 3 point yesterday!!! Well done! Hopefully last couple of days in my recovery next week!

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

Feel like it has been so long since I saw this man line up at Cb.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

What happened to Verts again? I remember him sitting on the pitch right at the end of a game looking ****ed off - did someone kick him or what?

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

He tried to hurdle Senderos and rolled his ankle in the 89th or something. Medical staff helped him off at FT, he did look royally p***ed off

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

We really need a change at the back. Though I think that Sherwood will go for him and daws up front while I prefer chiriches...

I'd rather stick with Ade and Soldado :)

Joking apart. Vertonghen should walk into the side ahead of Chiriches. And hopefully he doesnt have to play LB again, he is no mug there, but he is 10% better utilised in his natural position, and I think we will see an improvement in Dawson's play too

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

Excellent news. Might be back for City then?

Would think so, the only plus from the FA Cup exit is we only have one game in the next 18 days, great chance now to have a near full squad for the City game.
Barring any more niggles next week I would like to think only Paulinho, maybe Walker and probably Kaboul will be sidelined come Jan 29th

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

I would suggest the same applies to Townsend

I had to be ****ed when I typed that :)

I think Eriksen is coming slowly to terms with the pace of the PL. Actually against Crystal Palace he was a bit wasteful in possession but generally speaking he is finding his feet. IMO his improvement can predominantly be credited to minutes on the pitch. There is no real substitute for it and a lesson here for Lamela's integration I'd say.
