....or maybe it just makes it a less competitive market place if we do have to sell an unhappy player?
And it also makes Lionel Messi signing for us that little bit more unlikely :(

From that BBC article:
FCB will present the corresponding appeal to Fifa and if necessary will submit the resulting resolution to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)," said a statement on the club's official website.

Should the case reach CAS it would raise the possibility that the club could still sign players this summer if the ban is not imposed until a final decision is made.

This ban is going to be in the courts of appeal for the next GHod-knows-how-long. And then there'll be the legal challenges under EU trade laws and all sorts. And even if the ban stands, it'll end up being reduced to six months and won't come into effect until the end of August. So they#ll effectively lose the January 2015 window and nothing else.

Leastways, I'll be very surprised if that doesn't happen.

Chelsea had the same thing and it was overturned. Barcelona will be signing players. Not Vertonghen though.

I doubt Barca are even interested in Vertonghen, they'll most likely stick with trying to sign David Luiz.

Vertonghen would actually be a good signing for Barca as he is a good footballer but a poor defender. They rarely have to defend, but want their defenders to play football.

I hope they take him off our hands.

Poor Vertonghen. He has been badly out of form for very long time now. But can't blame him when he has to play with the error-prone players. I think Vertonghen would have benefitted from playing with King long term. It is a pity Vertonghen was signed to replace King instead of playing with him.

Er.. yes you can blame him as he has been as equally error prone as anyone in our defence. Infact, I personally can pinpoint Chiriches' injury and the breaking up of the decent Chiriches/Dawson defensive partnership and Vertonghen's subsequent return to the centre of our defence as the precise moment our defence when from one of hte best in the league early in the season to a friggin circus!

Aw poor Jan he should just lean against the wall and sulk.
I'm sure that was Ledley's attitude back when he had to play along side Perry, Doherty and Gardner. King was reduced to being a lazy bumbling error prone defender by those around him wasn't he?

But King also played with some of the best defenders around like Campbell, Naybet and Woodgate. I am sure King learned a thing or two from them and improved himself. In contrast, ever since he joined, Vertonghen has to put up with error-prone players like Dawson, Kaboul, Chiriches and Caulker who have never played for any big club apart from Spurs.

You mean apart from when Kaboul & Chiriches played for Auxerre & Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League or for their national teams?

Chiriches has made a fraction of the errors Vertonghen has made and I'd also say that Dawson has made far less errors than Vertonghen. I have very vivid memories of massive brain farts by Vertonghen, like when he resorted to pulling the pants down of a Villa player when he'd totally done him with hardly any effort due to Vertonghen's catastrophic positioning and poor reading of the game, like when Vertonghen has literally gift-wrapped countless goals for the opposition this season with careless, lazy back-passes, failed interceptions, clown-like positioning and terrible communication. He's even got away with numerous brain-farts that weren't punished, like against Benfica when he misread a ball and Lloris had to save his ass last minute.

Vertonghen is the root of the problem IMO, he is not some poor super-world-class player being reduced to a clown by others. Dawson has proven he can play in great tight defensive units, he was part of a great partnership with Bassong in Harry's CL season, he was also part of a good defence last season for us and early this season with Chiriches, just for example.

As for Chiriches, when he was in the team, our defence looked rock solid. Since his injury, and since Vertonghen came back into central defence, we've looked a mess. BECAUSE of Vertonghen and his poor communication, inability to read the game, terrible positioning and lazy tackling and attempts at interception.

Spurs results when Dawson & Chiriches played in central defence. Apart from the Emirates Marketing Project (home) result, which was somewhat understandable after the red card, I think it speaks for itself. I'd suggest that Vertonghen and Kaboul are the problem when it comes to our centrebacks.

King was the consummate professional whose immaculate performances and demeanour raised the level of those around him. I doubt too many would apply that description to Vertonghen, given he has done precisely the opposite.

errm all those games are against teams below us in the table (apart from City) These games have rarely been a problem no matter who we had in the defence
