Jose Mourinho - SACKED

Chelsea tried it.

It really doesn’t matter where somebody was born imo, it’s not relevant to anything.
Chelsea tried it with a guy with no experience and possibly capability (we will see)

I agree where a manager is from has no bearing on ability, but it’s a constant that people want to go foreign rather than homegrown for managers and players. It’s a weird trait that doesn’t happen in other leagues as much because they don’t have the ££ or profile

I think it's more to do with the quality available than the name/passport, the UK was behind the times on coaching for a long time, I'm sure it will change in future as the newer generation will come through. It's not that long ago that the FA binned off the Charles Hughes methods.

If Potter was say Italian and was managing at a minor Serie A club it's likely one of the big clubs would be knocking on his door soon enough - then a couple of years further down the line an English club would be after him.

Wonder if we'd have appointed Poch if he was English?

The methods are the same now with the UEFA badges..... A big difference though is that in many other European countries you can get sponsored/paid for taking your coaching qualifications, whereas here you have to pay to take them (like I did). It is appalling that we have kids in this country being coached by people who have no idea or structure at all as happens in both Sunday League football and even school football. Even when I played for the District as a kid our coach (nice bloke that he was and at least did at least like us to play proper, passing football) didn't have any formal coaching qualifications. It wasn't until I played for my County that I actually was coached by somebody with coaching qualifications and it was unbelievable the difference that he made to my game.

Our standards are now largely the same as the rest of Europe but the number of qualified coaches we have compared to other European nations is relatively low.

Imagine an English manager being given a chance at a club that’s capable of winning a trophy

Thought you guys were talking about him coming to us.

I dont dislike the guy, do know the girlfriend of a player but he does not get much of a look in so he might be tinkled because of that.

Their director of football is pretty good, in a sense whoever comes in now has the same free hit that Poch had after Sherwood because the football has been so bad.

This is a genuine question.... Do they not have a striker of note because they are unlucky to have poor strikers or does their system make their strikers look poor? Maupay looked a good striker for Brentford for example.

Let's assume we don't keep Harry Kane at Spurs. Do you think that Potter in charge here would see us do better in front of goal than Brighton with (say) Vinicius up front?

I only half watched their game against Everton yesterday. I thought that Brighton were on top in the second half but created very little of note. Are they dominating games through pointless possession and not creating chances (like us under AVB as an example)? (Though I must say that Brighton have seriously impressed me in every one of their games against us in the last few years (even those that they lost).
They are 5th in the league for xPoints and we are 10th. They have underperformed their xG by 13, we've overperformed by 7.
The quality of the strikers is a huge factor in why they are so low in the table and we are as high as we are.

Thank you sir. In which case I am sold!

No idea
I’ll speculate and say probably not. He hadn’t won anything at either club previous and I don’t think he had many big game scalps... but I could be wrong

The UK was behind
It’s why potter had to come through college football to get a chance
We may still be, but we will never know until more new ones get a chance

Brighton have a great set up
The best in the country IMO is Brentford
Clubs that have to punch above their weight have to think differently and also stick by those principles

One hopes that our CEO takes good looks at those clubs (and indeed all successful clubs) to see what we can learn off of them.

It's clear that we aren't going to be in the top 4 biggest spenders on fees or wages in the foreseeable future and therefore we have to operate significantly better than those 4 clubs who are if we want to be successful, that means a brilliant recruitment set up and a system manager that coaches a team to be better than the sum of its parts.

In many ways I am quite shocked that we haven't gone out and got one of those couple of brilliant (and available) DoFs. Levy cannot see what has happened at Lille and not be impressed and every football person wants to test themselves in the richest and most covered league in World football. What could be stopping us from securing Campos or Rangnick?

1. We're not offering the wages?
2. We're not offering them enough automony?
3. The manager has said 'no way Jose' (if only somebody had said that to Levy 18 months ago!) to DoF coming in (would seem strange for Jose to do that considering his relationship with Campos)
4. A misguided sense of loyalty to Hitchen (past actions has indicated to me that Levy doesn't really do much loyalty and certainly not misguided loyalty)
5. Levy believing that our current structure is better?

As sceptical as I am about the xg and xPoints things (simply because I don't know how they're calculated), those stats are quite incredible

I do think Levy will go for someone who he can see as being at Spurs longer-term (ie building something, like Poch did) when he replaces Jose so perhaps Potter has a shout. The media dont see to be linking him to us though

It has to be number 2 doesn't it.

Although that's not necessarily a knock on Levy, Mitchell being on the take has probably scared him off.

I don’t think the media have a clue what’s really happening with us anymore
But they do think it’s Nagellsmann were after. He could be brilliant for us but I just don’t see it happening myself
I also really like what Parker has done at Fulham this season and he did his coaching badges here.
if I was guessing I think Jose goes this summer. I think we are trying to plan for that happening now
Nothing happens overnight at £500m organisations
