Tottenham defender Kyle Walker-Peters told Sky Sports he learned yesterday that he would be making his Premier League debut.

"I found out yesterday in training before we worked on tactics and shape work. I was a bit nervy, nerves are good though. A few of the boys tried to tease me about it.
Great to see the team supporting a newbie.
Must be fantastic being in that dressing room.

Decent performance by the young man. Think we should forget about signing a specialist RB in the window and focus on getting a right sided CB like Sanchez who could fill in at RB in an emergency.
Agree. If we signed the chap from Porto (who I do like), he would expect to play (even if it's up to Poch) , so that would make you wonder where that leaves Tripps let alone KWP .

Just stick with those two and Dier or Sanchez if required.

We've seen how much new signings from abroad have struggled in their first seasons. Right now I don't quite see why we shouldn't trust KWP. He's shown real signs of stepping up.

I will trust Pochettino's decision either way though.

Looked solid like ben Davis today but still lacked the ability to crush teams with our wide play with pace.

Kwp looked really good, can't fault him.

Hopefully we'll sign an attacker which will give us some pace higher up before the end of the window....

This, both Davies & KWP may be able to do a job, but they don't (and yes Davies scored today) hurt the opposition in a way of KW/DR combination.

Re KWP, he was tidy, got away with the mistake on the offside but other than that, decent shift. Most telling for me was the senior players were quite happy to pass him the ball and involve him often.

And not just his PL debut but his actual first team (competitive) debut. Away from home. In a position under scrutiny due to Walker's departure.
He handled it well. Looked composed. Got beaten a couple of times but luckily nothing was lost on those occasions. Made a couple of very good tackles and put in some decent passes.
Not sure I'd want to expose him to Chelsea next week but he should be very pleased with his performance today.

He had a decent debut but I wouldn't go overboard about it. Half an inch difference in the offside decision and could have given away a penalty, he also seemed to find it tough to recover when he got caught up the pitch. For a debut it was a pretty good show, but I wouldn't fancy relying on him if Trippier was out for a lot of games.

One for the future rather than this season imo.

Decent debut for the lad today I thought. Tidy and efficient much like Davies but lacking the impact that Walker and Rose would normally have on the game.

Those are things that you find with pretty much any young fullback. It takes a while to learn the position and we ask a lot of ours. The only way he will learn though, is first team games.

Well, I hope we sign the Ajax guy who can also play as a right-back, with Trippier fit then we will be well covered. I'm sure Onomah or Harry Winks would benefit from us putting them in the starting lineup much more, but if we want to compete for the title then we can't afford too much learning on the job imo. I think KWP will get some more game time this season, but I don't think we will be relying on him too much yet, at this stage.

I do think that being caught out of position is a trait that you tend to find in young fullbacks. Playing with attacking fullbacks like we do, it will always be a risk and these can be tight calls. The margins of error in the PL are so small. If KWP has a future with us, he is going to have to learn in the first team at some stage.

Sanchez looks like a good signing but I would assume that he is primarily being signed as a CB. I would not be opposed to going into the season with Trippier and KWP as our main RB options but trust Poch's judgement to make the right call.

the great thing with KWP is that he looks like the type who is a quick learner......apparently a week ago Poch didnt think he was ready to start this game, but a week of excellent work on the training field from KWP managed to change Poch's mind.

this kid has been identified by many at the club as a future talent. Now its up to the lad to stay humble, listen, work hard and the rewards will follow

good start

He explained after the game that he only said that to keep pressure off of him

I think, because our sights are now higher than when Poch first arrived (we're now a genuine title challenging team as opposed to a Europa League team) we will see more youngsters out on loan. Onomah is the first, I think KWP could go the same way, even Winks depending on who we sign. But that's a good thing imo, and we did very well out of Rose, Walker and Kane going on loan in the past.

Having said that, if we sign Sanchez then it might mean we play with a back 3 consistently, and that would be a better system for KWP to play in, as he'd be on the front foot all the time and would have the insurance of a fast right-sided centre back covering the full-back zone. It might even be the thinking behind promoting Trippier and selling Walker (using him in a 3 at the back system as a wing-back) as that also plays more to his strengths and covers the lesser parts of his game.
