"Liverpoool won't do a Spurs"

Every pool fan I talk to; 'We'll be there or there abouts' Most predicting 2nd again. Mental!

I get that quite a bit too of course. Mental in a way, but also pretty standard for most fans I think.

When Saudi Sportswashing Machine finished 6th (was it?) very few of their fans were predicting them to finish 10th or lower next season, similar when we finished 4th iirc.

I really think the sensible thing for them would be to lower expectations. A friend of mine is a Liverpool fan and thinks that CL qualification should be their target this season and I agree with him.

Agreed too - that's a reasonable aim for them, I think. They should be happy with fourth, anything higher would be a bonus.

with the changes they have had to make and more games then getting back in the CL would be a very impressive return

The past two seasons I've placed a bet with a Liverpool supporting mate in work.

Question is, should I take the bet this year? I honestly think the joy I would feel for winning it would outweigh my disappointment if I lost.

Betfair says "no", at least in terms of title winning possibilities.

Liverpool about 14/1 (I've laid them) and Spurs 75/1 (backed them so I can lay them - hopefully - later in the season).

Bet ended up being domestic trophies. Ranked in the following order;

League winners
FA Cup
League Cup
League position

I doubt either of us will win the league. So it will be down to the other 3.

I'm determined to figure out what this means. Is this right...

You lay a bet against Liverpool hoping they won't win the League, say £10, so if they don't win you get €140 but if they do win you owe £130 (plus the original stake)?

I have always been to shy to ask, thank you.

No, when you lay a bet you are the other side from the backer.

So, if a punter bets £10 at 14/1 that Liverpool win the league, the most he stands to lose is his £10 stake. This is what the layer wins if Liverpool do not win the league.

If Liverpool win, the punter gets his £140 winnings (+ £10 stake) all of which comes from the layer.

Pool have lost the best striker in the league and also now have champions league to play in every couple of weeks, they should bite your hand off for 4th right now.

Chelsea have spent a few bob, Emirates Marketing Project will spend, **** have spent, Utd have a proper manager, our players might finally settle in and Everton have got Lukaku, if Pool think they are going to finish above all them teams their dreaming! They're battling with us, Everton and probably Utd for 4th at best.

yeah the bin liners, sorry, bin dippers, will be very lucky if they can get near top 4 this year - much like us.

Emirates Marketing Project, manyoo, chavs and l'**** all but shoed in as top 4 unless one does a massive, massive slip up.

Us, Toffees and bin dippers waiting to pounce ... bin dippers to slip with demands of CL and EL, for sure

Bet they're wishing right now they were "doing a Spurs" -

Sat in a roomful of them last week and all working very hard to convince one another that third is still reachable.

"Rodgers will finally have the team he really wants. Next year's our year", one of them chirped. Just no point in arguing.

I don't understand how an entire city can be so completely departed.

Half of a city technically. It really is split down the middle as to who people support up there.
They're all unionist tacos with a massive chip on their shoulders, it's just that half of them are unionist tacos with chips on their shoulders who think their brick football team will win the league next season.

To be fair I think Moreno is looking very useful. Markovic and Can are coming along nicely for them. Lallana was starting to find his feet. Rodgers is really struggling to integrate Lambert I think. Balotelli has been an unmitigated disaster so far and Lovren has been poor.

Its the fudging delusion I can't take .. they really believe they legitimately should have won the title every season for the last 20+ years ..
