For some reason I’d always wanted him to succeed, as his showreel on YouTube showed him getting goals from nowhere and in his age group he was looking like he could become the game changer we’d be unlikely to afford and to have another academy grad in the first team helps reinforce the club ethos.

From the quotes in the article and the agent link (which may explain Rose’s interview post Walker too!) it does seem that he won’t be getting any more chances with us, so if he knuckles down I wish him all the best, as long as it is at a lower level that proved my original expectations wrong!!
 
Excelsior is such a badass name for a football club, sounds like they should play their home games at Castle Greyskull....

Re Edwards, surely if ever there's time for a buyback clause it's here...With a year on his contract, sell him on to Fulham or somewhere and keep that option open and keep the relationship on a positive. I don't think it benefits anyone for him to be sitting around training with the U23s but don't see us loaning him out as it would likely lead to a free transfer come the end of the season.
 
I wonder if he might go back to the Dutch league again but go and play for one of the better teams. He’s seems to have done ok for a poor side. Would be interesting to see him play in the league for a team that is winning.
 
he’s clearly got talent, the sort you can’t teach, would be a shame if he wastes it. Unfortunately it sounds like he may have burnt some bridges at Spurs / the coaching staff and we know Poch doesn’t forget easily.

Would love for him to be given another chance in pre season, his close control, dribbling and creativity could be a huge asset off the bench in some games. He would obviously have to improve and work hard to get to that stage but I’m hoping he’s not another Taarabt!

Not a big loss. But it is his loss, because he had all the potential in the world. He isn't the first kid to let the prestige get to his head, and he won't be the last.

Interestingly I cant think of one young player that we have let go since Graeme Souness that we have ended up regretted doing so. I honestly thought that Alex Pritchard might be the one, but he has turned out to be merely average. Therefore I tend to trust the clubs judgement on this. Taraabt, Terry Dixon, Nabil Bentaleb ,there have been a few over the years. Not one has fulfilled their potential

Likewise. I know a few folks were surprised that we let Caulker go - me among them. But it turns out, we had good reasons for doing so, and in general, I've trusted the club with the youth players since. If they think a player's a dud, chances are, he is.

They are far from "duds" they make the club millions, and allow us to run the youth teams for free, so when a Kane or Winks comes along we really benifit.

I agree with you, that the club knows far better than us as to who we should keep. The one other example of a mistake they made was that they did let Crouch go and then bought him back

I was really upset when Souness left, he was an oustanding youth player much better than Perryman who he was playing with at the time but Perryman was much more mature and had a better engine.
 
Souness was the big one, where we let greatness slip through our hands. On a lesser scale, I can think of Keith Weller, Derek Possee, Mark Bowen & Ian Culverhouse as players that we let go who probably could've done a job for us.

The latter two were not great players but probably better than the full-back pairing we had at the time they were part of a briefly successful Norwich City team. We've had precious few top-class full-backs in my time of supporting Spurs.

Apparently so. That, and the fact that Daniel Levy had to arrange an emergency cash delivery to pay off young Stephens gambling debts just about cooked his goose.

Yes Keith Weller was a terrific player, I thought he lacked a bit of self belief and was in awe of the first team players we had when he was here.

Fans go over board on many occasions about " one of our own" players as we all love to see them do well, but the truth is that for everyone of them who go on to become top players for us there are a lot more who have to drop down the leagues to play. Its the same for most clubs.

Oh, sure, mate. I didn't mean it harshly - they will still earn us comfortable sums and will hopefully have careers in football that will set them up for life.

But they weren't good enough for Spurs, is all. We haven't let someone go (by choice) that went on to prove us wrong for letting him go.
