OMT ** Tottenham Hotspur v Wolves ** 29 December 2024.

Not necessarily changes in personnel, just don’t send the full backs bombing forward at every opportunity like it’s a religion. If we go a goal or two up, take your foot off the pedal at times, we don’t have to go out all attack attack attack regardless of the score, state of the game etc from minute 1 to minute 90.
Unlikely we score first in this game!

During routine maintenance of the retractable pitch a vital piece of the mechanism has failed leaving one section of the pitch under the south stand.
We are working full out to resolve the issue but due to the festive season parts are not as ready to hand as they could be.
It is with deep regret that we have approached the Premier League and asked for a postponement of tomorrows game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

What do we think, worth a try?

which part of the pitch?

if its one of the full back areas we'll get told we never put any players there anyway

Push the roosterrel off the Park Lane roof and make a big crater on the pitch. Blame it on the recent high winds

Strand Larsen is 6'4" and plays at the point of the spear for them. Surely we would not consider putting 2 central defenders less than 6' against this guy? I would keep the six footers in the back line.

Forster
Porro, Dorrington, Bentancur, Udogie
Gray, Bissouma
Sarr, Madds, Kulu
Solanke

Controversial maybe, but that is how I would start this game. There is another factor as well. That is, we will be playing against a 3-4-2-1 system and we need to keep ourselves organised. We can win the game with Sonny, Johnson etc but we must not go a goal down early.

Ange will probably do his normal thing though.

Who would you play in his favoured 4-3-3?

I'd go

Forster

Porro
Dorrington
Gray
Udogie

Maddison
Bergvall
Bentancur

Deki
Solanke
Son

I think it is vital we keep some legs and lungs on the bench. We have to keep Werner, Johnson and Sarr for later in the same IMO.

I think a lot of 433 managers would put Maddison in the front 3 rather than the middle 3.
Son is running on fumes and has had zero impact recently, in fact negative impact because nothing he does helps the team.
I wonder if we could stiffen up the midfield 3 to protect the CBs better, by moving Maddison into Son's place.

What I’d do…
Assuming drago is injured
Forster
Porro Dorrington gray destiny
Bissouma and sarr
Bentacur
Kulu Solanke Maddison

As most folks seem to have named a CB pairing of a youth midfielder and a very inexperienced youth defender, I'm assuming there won't be too many people calling Ange a 'macaron' , 'naive' or 'stupid' if we happen to lose this, right? What is he supposed to do?

No one likes to lose, but we really are down to the barest of bones in defence.

I wouldn't call him a macaron but there is a bit of nuance to this. Ange is himself the one who has decided to go into this season with just 3 senior recognised CBs plus a converted LB. He is the same person that has never given Phillips a start and sent him out on loan, he's the same person who hasn't given the youth CB any real minutes.

Given all of that he can't then ask for understanding when it's said that the young CB has no real experience. Well yes that's true, but that's largely because you haven't given him any time. No cup minutes, no European minutes. These are all decisions of his own choosing.

Now for me I don't know if Dorrington is ready and I respect Ange's opinion that he isn't but he can't then only have 3 CBs on the books and ask for sympathy at the same time when it all goes kaput.

We knew VDV's hamstrings are at risk, we know Romero has never completed a full season, hell even Davies has reliable spells of being unavailable in recent years.

So for me the lack of available CBs isn't something that evokes sympathy. It's bad planning and poor squad management.

The CB situation and injuries I struggle to have sympathy for Ange for a few reasons

Rushing VDV/Romero back

He's openly admitted his style of play causes muscle injuries - stop making the CBs do constant recovery sprints every game

Asking Davies and Dragon to play the same way as VDV/Romero when not suited, increasing the likelihood of injury

He's had plenty of chances to give Dorrington minutes (this and last year ) or he should have kept Phillips and given him minutes in EL/Cup games and in the few games we had a decent lead along side a senior pro

Just noticed that it’s 6 years to the day since I brought my son to his first Spurs game which was also against Wolves when we were flying high under Poch at Wembley.

Spurs 1-3 Wolves

His first 7 home games were played 7, won 1, lost 6, scored 2 and conceded 11.

At least he had expectations set early.
