I don't think it's ever a waste of time to track expenditure and remove unnecessary or duplicative costs, as long as there's a clear understanding of why that expenditure is there in the first place.
But this is just performative. They already know what they want to find imo (including DEI costs, immigration-related costs, and so on) - I don't for one moment believe they will be doing a true analysis of value for money across contracted suppliers and service providers.
And when they find they can't get all the info they want, probably for good reason, they'll cry foul play.

On a side note....'ambition' will usually struggle without cold hard cash. Especially if you want to go down the genuine and honest route also.

True but they are investing a fair bit and even then there's reforms they could go ahead with. Not saying these are earth shattering but lots of little things add up. Just frustrating that they're not showing more ambition when they have such a large majority and a country that in the main would embrace some bigger changes.

Unsure if this is the right thread, but reports in the Sunday Times today that the MoD are in advanced sensitive talks with the US to agree a deal to purchase a squadron of F35As (we currently only use the F35B which is the STOVL version) and an associated stockpile of B61 thermonuclear gravity bombs (which the F35A can deploy but the F35B can't). These are tactical battlefield nuclear warheads.

This has come out of the strategic defence review and would plug a gap in tactical nuclear strike capability.

Would represent a return to aircraft launched nuclear strike capability after a circa 30 year gap and the most significant uplift in any western country's nuclear weapons capability since the cold war.
