Sky Broadband

Sky seems decent enough to me, never had an issue in 9 months of being with them, just taken the above now. Speeds always seem steady whatever the time etc and never had any connection or any other issues.

This is what I have. Its slightly more expensive than others, but the service is excellent. Had no issues whatsoever in the 4 years since I joined them. Am I right in saying they have their own dedicated switches at the exchange? My neighbours are on sky broadband and their speeds are atrocious, while i receive 12-15mb on my 'up to 24mb' line.

When testing speeds with neighbours people really should be getting the same speeds. Most of the time they don't because of bodge job DIYers, for example, a phone extention in the bedroom made a friend of mines speed go down to 0.8mb. Took the phone out, it runs at 12mb now. They went out and bought 2 wireless phones, that attach downstairs. They had been cursing SKY for 2 months. lol
Generally sky I find are very good. When there has been a problem its not with SKY but with BT who own the line outside the house.

If you are using ANY broadband that is piped in via BT copper wires, then so many factors come into play.
Distance from the exchange, age of installation in your street, how big an area any sub-station covers, how many people in your street on same loop etc.

Any one on here getting "good" speeds from the likes of Sky etc must have several of the things above on their side. I have the majority of those against me, and suffered constant drop-outs or ridiculously low speeds (0.5mb sometimes).

Switch to Virgin cable and never had a problem since.......currently on 20mb (and achieving it) but about to go 60mb with the new superhub wi-fi

I currently pay a total of £121 per month for Virgin b-band and land line, plus Sky HD ( multi-room, Sky sports, but no movies) but am in the process of switching off Sky for Virgin tv as well with a saving of over £40 per month.

Never had any issue with sky. Got the basic TV package with unlimited broadband, phone and line rental for £40 pm. Fortunately I do live right next to the exchange though
