Tactics Thread

thats what i said earlier - angeball is very inefficient.
lots of players in useless positions or lack of tactical discipline, and questionable player circulation.

its not a player thing - its down to coaching.

the only way angeball can work is if we can afford at least16 established players near or at their peak, maximising subs every game, and count on the players decide how to work out tactical gaps/opportunities in game. i.e. players overcome the tactical issues with angeball

First thing we need to do better regarding what we are doing on training ground and analytics , our players are doing the same mistakes every single match. Porro and Udogie are not doing their jobs in the defence, always late for the far post and easy to play behind,Spence who is the least integrated with our training is the best we had of defensive perspective ( and yes Salah and Arnold contributed but that was the team more than Spence ) . Biss, Maddison , Son and Johnson are not tracking back make us very vulnerable. Pressing without tactics individually not as a unit makes it easy to beat our pressing even when Solanke and Son overrun but that is not the case. And waiting for the pass for too long and then pass to a player with his body position is not suitable to receive the ball and lose centrally is adding a lot of counters.

There is no training time, that is the problem. When you are playing 3 games a week with only 15 players available, recovery is the only priority.

They can do video reviews, but no legs/time to drill new/corrections into them.

Your Spence example is very interesting because of that point, the coaches have been working with him (because he hasn't been red lining by overplaying) and as a result I see good things both offensively and defensively from him even if he needs time in team.

I’ve said that and got laughed at
But I was folding by my nephew who is proper qualified coach and works in football
Poor lad is a spurs fan thanks to me too
Now you will have others shout “but we have no style of play and what did Ange do last years then…. “

If ange wants to overload the players in the front, he needs to use them better rather than having them standing in a line in front of the defence. More movement into half spaces, sudden and planned bursts behind the defence. Get more players involved with repeatable tactics across the entire frontline.

I think the biggest factor is going to be continuing to get the players which work versus moving on the ones who don't. I've said for some time that I think there will be some surprises, albeit I don't think those surprises will be quite as big now people are seeing that they don't work consistently in this style.

Once again we see why Ange really wanted Gallagher...

Honestly what do you think Gallagher adds to this squad (other than legs at this point)?

Again we score more than anyone in the league, don't think Ange needs advice on the front line

Now if you had something that talked about defense stability?

I know our defense gets a lot of stick [ some deserved at times], but imo our real weakness is CM, it s not strong enough and we are wide open on most occasions.

Just my opinion of course but Bissouma needs replacing and even Maddison needs a kick up the arse in most games. Sarr , Bents are both worth perservering with but we really need a proper DM in there and until we solve that situation our defenders will always be wide open. To be honest i am not a big supporter of Gallagher though.

Not necessarily my choice of player. Simply saying you can see why Ange really wanted him, for those legs and attitude.

Yeah, I don't see what Gallagher adds, decent player, good workrate, high energy. Honestly I think Deki plays the role probably expected by Gallagher now. Our attack doesn't need help, our defense does and in that Gallagher is no better than the rest of our midfielders.

@parklane1 you and I are in same place, until a DM type (and one ready to go, not 18-20) is targeted, we will have problems.

BTW, I've been banging on about a proper class DM since this time LAST year!!!

With regards Gallagher, he would allow more midfield rotation with regards to energy bunnies.

Indeed!
As I replied below mate, I wanted a new DM/6 since last Christmas.

Same here, its so bloody obvious to me and one of the MAIN reasons our defenders get so much stick from some fans.
I think Biss showed he will never be that when he was sent off, then got 5th yellow right before Afcon last season. We needed him and he lost his head. Also inconsistent on the pitch, albeit he must be knackered right now.

To be honest i was a little surprised and dissapointed when we bought him, he never really struck me as a very good player at Brighton [ allthough others did] and at his age he imo was hardly going to get that much more consistant. I thought the same about Maddison as well and both have shown that we can not depend on them to be anything more then what they are.

I know our defense get a lot of stick for allowing so many chances to opposing teams but IMO a lot of that is down to our porus M/F.
