The Official 2024/25 Premier League Thread

Pep realising that having a big man up front means you can go long.

Fair play to him adapting now he doesn't have a team that's overly superior to everyone else.

I assume Chelsea will get slaughtered for crumbling after having taken the lead? Chucked the game away, poor game management, flaky, weak performance etc? Isn’t that how it works?

How were Citys 2 new players today?

Didn't get to watch all of the game.

CB looked poor. Gave away the first goal, didn't look confident and felt like others chose not to pass the ball to him

The forward/winger looked lively, caught offside a few times, but made some good runs

I guess it's not Skelly's red card that is the issue, as seeing Arteta blow a gasket is always funny. It's the fact that one PGMOL referee at Stockley Park still has the audacity to protect his best mate on the pitch by pretending it wasn't a red card, when the entire world knows it's a yellow. It's the fact that both those guys and the supporting PGMOL cast of characters share the same team metrics at work and will break rules to protect them. It's the fact that they still stick their middle finger up at the people that pay their wages and just do what they want. Further proof that Howard Webb isn't changing that broken culture in that organisation. They don't seek excellence in their jobs. They just steal a salary.

Red card all day for me, it wasn't a trip, it was studs raked down his shin with force.

The only reason I think it's not a red card is because it's totally inconsistent with all of the other examples of this (granted, not all of them have studs going into someone's calf.)

I'd be more than happy if these kinds of fouls -- from behind, stopping a counter, no attempt on the ball whatsoever -- became automatic red cards.

That was probably his intent, but he made a mess of it, you get a challenge like that wrong and you run the risk.
He got it wrong, it's a red card for me.

The red is supposedly for serious foul play, which is questionable. However, there is a case that a cynical foul with no attempt to play the ball should be a red card offence. It's essentially just kicking the opponent.

Can't do that City would have half their team suspended.

Amen to your second sentence. Referees would get so much respect from me if they started doing this. Get the dark arts out of the game and we'll see a more attractive product.

That's one point for sure. But it's also so dangerous. I'd argue more dangerous than many of the reds we see.

Its the little things

United struggling, pot shot at goal from distance takes a massive deflection and loops in.

We have two shots that hit the woodwork, yes we are bit pants, but we cant catch a break like that when we really need it

Uncanny

Not sure if this is the right place for this. But Interesting to see how a high press can be effective if coordinated well from front to back, with the manager drilling the players to know which positions to take up in attack and then in defence following a turnover. Seems more controlled than Ange’s system. Hope the link works.
