U23s, Academy and Loanees

75mins - Ven back ahead - our Malachai Hardy subs on at RCB.

80min corner given for them, they claim for two handballs but no joy from surrounding the ref. Only card is yellow for them kicking the ball away, and commentator nnotes that the delay means time lost affects them more.

83min - ooh, a tackle means treatment and another yellow for us. ref's now taking the proverbial

85min Heskey subbed off, game management/protection time

88min - another double save from their bloke, grabbing it behind on the line.

90min - 3-0 Miles went on solo safari down the right wing, into the area, along the line, and from tight angle behind the keeper.

5mins added - but then, they said that 1st half

2nd place confirmed.

Final groups tomorrow afternoon - draw soon after - R32 Fri/Sat - Tue - Fri - Mon - Thu (3rd & final)

I only saw 2nd half but I thought the England boys showed great restraint with the bizarre decisions of the officals, particularly the linesman (they will always be that to me).
I see Brazil drew 1-1 with Zambia.

U17 knockout stage drawn

I dont think we look good enough to win the whole thing but I have enjoyed watching so far.

There's little to no sideways and backwards passing and not much composure at the back (a lot of getting rid first and chasing the 2nd ball), but they are all battling for every ball and attacking directly with pace, which is fun.

Basically, completely the opposite to watching a Spurs game recently.

I think play safe at the back is due to the high press. This is a massive competition for these lads and you can understand their reluctance to be caught in possession or give away a chance.

About to start - live stream, ground-sound but no commentary (ignore dodgy caption on icon)

ON SECOND THOUGHTS - don't bother. Played holding midfield and had little involvement.

I checked the fixtures for academy sides yesterday and couldn't believe the U21's do not have a game until 9th January, that's just crazy.

Got mentioned in recent commentary - I wondered if he'd mis-spoken. The academy season structuring is something else.

Makes them available for bench-sitting with first team, but actual pitch time is another thing until we start getting leads that would allow them to come on.
