He has but how often have you heard all sorts of people, fans and media alike, saying players need a disciplinarian? It was said a lot about United under OGS. It sounds like Sancho has been unprofessional to me. Ronaldo was extremely self centred and displayed it many times. Rashford was dropped for being late to a team meeting (and accepted it to be fair to the lad). So ETH has done what a lot of fans would be pleading for.

Ferguson did what ETH did routinely. I guess there are some crucial differences. Fergie rarely made it public. ETH has given too much information IMO. The world has also moved on from the days where you could “tell them like it is”. Most crucially, Fergie got rid of lads who crossed him and had the authority to do that. I’m not sure (m)any managers have that option these days when you’re talking about assets worth 100m+.

Just shows what a virtually impossible job football management is these days.

Yet there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that for all his mistakes Levy had Spurs in far far better shape than United have been under the Glaziers. United, with their revenue should have been walking the league a la City for the past decade. The Glaziers have done more for free competition than the FA. A shame City have been allowed to hack their way to taking uniteds place - essentially by paying the highest salaries.

Levy has allowed us to punch above our weight and at least have a shot at the richest clubs.

Not sure Paul McGrath or Norman Whiteside would agree. Jim Leighton also got publicly humiliated for the cup final and never spoke to Ferguson afterwards. Ferguson was ruthless early-on which enabled him to gain the control he craved and that, in turn, allowed him to forge the club in his image.

However, he was dealing with lads worth hundreds of thousands. ETH is dealing with lads worth nearly 100m each.

And Fergie just had to deal with a handful of reporters and their print newspapers who could only cover a finite amount of information. Now every word is scrutinised by millions on The Internet.

none of the United players are worth nearly £100m
They have over paid constantly now for ages

Back then players around a few million are the same as 100 mil players now. I remember thr good old days where you will see the back page of a rag with a transfer story or if no where ... I used to try to read other people's news papers sitting on the train ... yep I was one of those tossers

You're absolutely right they aren't but that's what they've paid. And on their balance sheet, Onana is ~50m, Sancho is ~50m and Antony is ~60m. That's just 3 examples. The "assets" he's falling out with are valuable (I know he hasn't fallen out with all of these 3, they're just examples). In those terms, Ten Hag, himself, is worth very little.

It makes a lot more sense to find a younger and in form player who can provide what Dele brought at the time.

Yes he was good for us but many years. As Tottenham fans we need to let go of this small club mentality where hark back to bygone times with ex players and coaches.

The only way is forward and forward doesn't not involve hiring previously failed components.

I wouldn't say that the size of the club has any link to whether we hire ex players or not. I also think to call Dele's career at Spurs a failure is wide of the mark. His decline has been explained and the lack of support the club gave him at the time (they may not have known but should have made it their job to know).

In a more general sense, if we get the opportunity to resign a player who was a success, and they are still able to contribute, we should not take a view that it's simply not something "big" clubs do - Barca would take Messi back in a blink of an eye, and they are one of the biggest clubs....

That’s because the club are a mess and with his guidance they brought the wrong players and over paid massively

The likes of Antony and Onana are 100% on Ten Haag though, players he’s previously worked with and would have requested.

You misunderstand me. I'm not calling Dele's Tottenham career a failure but the last 3 years were poor, very poor. His next 2 years have been a failure. To bring him back now based on the form of 7 years ago would not be a wise course of action. There's nothing to suggest he would perform like he did in 2015.

No big club, no serious club is going back in for a player whose career has totally tailed off purely for some misplaced sentimental reasons.
