"I was just waiving at family"
It's so dangerous, and so unstoppable, that I am personally not sure what to do. I think protection of my mental health and family is the most important thing, thus I am really going to have to avoid looking at the news regularly...which in and of itself presents some enormous issues. So he leaves the WHO. Skips the climate agreement. Cancels flights of Afghans who served the US during their war. Couple of Nazi salutes from Elon. And with Google head, Zuckerberg and Bezos all standing with him. It really is comically tragic
That's about as much as one can do in such unprecedented times. It's so dangerous, and so unstoppable, that I am personally not sure what to do. He also more subtlely cancelled aid to Ukraine in his speech. He did not call it out directly, but it is in there. To say this is a disaster for Ukraine and Europe is underselling it.So he leaves the WHO. Skips the climate agreement. Cancels flights of Afghans who served the US during their war. Also, one other thing a few commentators picked up on is that the TikTok ban reversal is in direct contravention of the 9-0 Supreme Court ruling. Straight out of the blocks, he is challenging the rule of law. He is testing the limit of his power, and if his order stands, then there is nothing left to restrain him.
Climate stuff here....sweet Jeebus. An energy emergency? The US is already the biggest exporter of fossil fuels on the planet.

(Obviously much bigger stuff in there btw)
100% mate.I just don't see the push back, its such a weird thing for me that people are so unprepared to accept the Earths Geology for what it is. I know there are arguments against the cost and the practicality of it, but so many calling it a conspiracy when really its just a fact that the worlds going to have to adapt to change as it always has. You may as well start making the gains not to be ready for when it does become crucial.
What if the use of fossil fuels can boost the economy and provide funding for R&D in carbon free technologies?100% mate.
We've treated things as if they are an infinite resource.
The homeostasis of the earth is the challenge. Fossil fuels and petrochemicals are the biggest effectors in that. And money is the biggest barrier. (And I don't mean the cost of doing it)
Without wishing to be too melodramatic, the support from big business is a direct echo of the Nazi era. As, of course, is the targetting of minorites, the implicit threats of violence, the excusing of previous violent acts of violence carried out in the name of the regime, the populist agenda, the attempts to stifle opposition voices...So he leaves the WHO. America will soon find out just what it voted for. The question is, will the people stand for it?
If that happens in the world's great bastion of democracy then we really are in the brick.I think the bigger question is whether true authoritarianism along the lines of Pinochet comes into effect and essentially beats resistance out of people.
The road to this point is lined with unimaginative folk saying 'don't be so melodramatic, he'll never do that'. Within a couple of years (maybe months!!) they'll be debating the type of camp those brown folk are in.Without wishing to be too melodramatic, the support from big business is a direct echo of the Nazi era. I honestly would be surprised if this is not the course already laid in. There will be protests and violence. The last chance to avoid this ended in November gone. There is no historical precedent where a country this far down the road to authoritarianism has self-corrected course and avoided it. It always ends up one way.I think the bigger question is whether true authoritarianism along the lines of Pinochet comes into effect and essentially beats resistance out of people.
