Anyone remember that Bale chap?

I always find it strange when people say things like this. It's like saying a Ferrari would be a **** car without its wheels.

absolutely spot on!

whilst we're at it, why don't we point out that zidane would be a worser player without his first touch. the "taking away a player's pace" debate is just pointless. and is usually thought up by people who don't understand how players develop.

if you suddenly gave a 25 yr old teddy sheringham bale's pace and power, he would improve obviously. but he wouldn't be able to utilise it anywhere near as effectively as bale. the way that bale uses his pace and power is absolutely phenomenal. and the ability to utilise those traits so effectively are built up over a long period of time, through hard work. ever since bale was a young kid he would have been fast, and would have tailored his game around that trait. hence he would have a lot of subconscious knowledge regarding how to use that pace. if bale was never quick as a kid, his game would have adapted totally differently. and who knows, maybe he could have developed into the welsh zidane.

the simple fact is; its bloody difficult to use bale's pace and power as well as he does. and thats why he gets paid the money he does. there are countless proffessional footballers that can run the 100m in under 11 seconds, but you don't even know they are that fast because they don't know how to use their pace like gareth bale.

Disagree. Having that pace and the ability to use that pace is only a part of what makes Bale great.

He combines that pace with other outstanding physical abilities. A lot of strength and power as you say, tremendous balance, stamina and fair bit of height. That physical ability is combined with a lot of close control and skill on the ball and a spectacular ball striking technique, he's also very composed. Very few players are as complete with such levels of all of those abilities, other than Ronaldo I can't think of any.

This…and there's more coming from him as long as the coaching remains top-notch. Not only was that header really difficult to put away, look at the movement he made to make sure he was there to have the half-chance! He went wide as opposed to central off that defender, supremely intelligent movement at any time, not tomention the 110th minute of a CL final. Benzema hadn't moved that smartly all game!

At the risk of seeming contrarian...

I didn't think it was all that. It was one of the first times in the match that there was a bit of space in the Atletico box. Arguably what you say about Benzema could be said about Bale to up until that point, and for me that movement was pretty "standard" for players at that level. Most of the credit for that goal should be given to Di Maria, and some of it to the injury on the Atleti right back.

And, "really difficult to put away"? Really? It would have been an atrocious miss had he missed it. It was missable I suppose, it wasn't a side footed tap in from a yard, there was some spin and curve on the ball, he was close-ish to the post and the defender was there (although not challenging him). But it was still a chance a professional footballer should put away 9 out of 10 times at least.

I agree that he will probably get better next season though. First season at Real and he's still adapting and he was short a pre-season and had some injury issues. Combined with a World Cup free summer for him whereas others will be running themselves into the ground (or jungle) in Brazil. Think Bale can really shine next season. His trophy winning match winners have given him all the breathing room in the world too, much less pressure on him next season.

Turned to even more of a beast over the summer I see..

he never mentions tottenham in any interviews, he was never "spurs" was he, even though he spent 6 seasons with us, it was totally the right decision for him to leave though

Gareth Bale scoring against Inter Milan...

Won't be long before he wins the award of World's Best Player. He's improving all the time. Pleasure to have had him play for our team.

I was bitter at first, when he left, because of the process of him leaving and Real Madrid being so unethical about it. That & hating the way that Real Madrid operate anyway. But, let's face it, the guy is a star and deserves to shine at the very highest table even if Real Madrid remain cheating and immoral ****s.

Why would he though? It's like banging on about an ex girlfriend...doesn't do anyone any favours.
