Djed Spence

Doesn't work that way for me. A Spurs managers job is to fully utilise the squad he is given between transfer windows. Because they often don't, it brings us so many issues over the years.

Most of the teams that we've played against in the EL and domestic cups, Reggie would walk into. He would also get into a lot of the bottom half PL teams. That means he's no liability. He was actually a very able deputy for Rico Henry last season.

He's definitely not elite though.
He would walk into those teams because those teams are inferior to usn
I’m not anti Reggie but every manger we have had since Jose is
That’s a huge huge message
He is here because no one else wants him either, at least not on the wages he us on

The wages are very relevant to his saleability.

Worth remembering so was his injuries. We weren't even able to sell him for part of that post Jose period.

I do just want him gone though. At least you only have to put up with this once with new managers and as you enter season 3 there really is no excuses for freezing out players. Well, that is unless the player acts like a dingdong and deserves it.

He is being used because we’re so short, and he trying hard
He hasn’t done anything wrong apart from being a player with some limitations
His injury and hospital issues in Spain won’t have helped and that’s why no one has brought him

Reguilon is a full international, it's poor planning not to use him occasionally. We need to upgrade yes but rotation and making the best use of your resources is a key part of the job and Ange has been poor at it.
Brian Gil is a full international
I wouldn’t play him in men’s football either
And it’s to just Ange that doesn’t want Reggie
Previous manager didn’t want him either
I agree Ange should have rotated more. Said that after match 3

yeah but reggie has been ok so far
a real waste that he wasn't played earlier or even registered for the europa squad
sure its up to ange but he seems to take a lot of unnecessary risks

Ok at best
He has tried but he can’t play ball the way we need
Neither can Gray when playing LB but he was still used there. Some times needs must and the need has definitely been this season and Ange hasn't utilised his squad fully. We now have the injury Udogie to show for it.

Gray definitely can play ball the way we want to. Also at left back. Struggled a bit defensively against really rapid wingers, but on the ball he's really good.

But he's not a leftie. When Reggie came on, Son immediately looked better as Reggie was working the entire left side. It was also Reggie putting dangerous balls into the box. For me, Gray is not a left back and obviously Reggie lacks the quality. I'd love a left footed Spence and a manager who mixes it up more. Pep had it right with Cancelo a few seasons back. You can absolutely find yourself in centre mid as a full-back but doing it every time just makes you predictable. It can also mess up the symbiotic relationship between full-back and centre mid when your number 6 is playing as a number 10 expecting a full-back to do his job. The team loses the width to stretch the opposition as well.

I'm really hopeful that the return of players can now shine the light on Ange in a good way. We really do need to see whether his tactical system can work. I think we're up to about 17 first-teamers at this point and by mid Feb we'll be at full quota. I think we also get to see whether that system works against all of the many other systems we come up against, and whether the players can slot into it every game and find that consistency we've never seen under Ange.

I don't particularly have a problem with starting out not using Regulion as backup LB as he was essentially only here cos we couldn't shift him and was never going to be a long term option, so using players considered to be long term is a fair enough route to take. However with Gray quickly being shown not to be good enough filling in at LB he maybe could have fallen back on him as an option a bit sooner.

Reguilon did well against Saudi Sportswashing Machine with game conditions that suited him (imo). Did you find his performance similarly impressive or used in the other games he's played?

Similar things can be said about a more traditional attacking full back role. It's not better or worse, depends on what suits the players imo. The inverted role suits all of our full back options apart from Reguilon imo.

I agree there should be some flexibility to avoid predictability. I think that's part of Ange's system.

Gray isn’t the answer
But Ange clearly rates him higher than Reggie
The udogie injury, in defence of ange, came in the game when he was due to be rested but Spence was suspended in
But again , is where utilising an actual left back would have worked…

Are you taking about the game son had 30 mins in?

Ultimately and longer term I don't expect Spence to be filling in at LB, Him and Porro as RB options with Udogie and 1 other coming in for LB. Nothing more complicated than that
