Dominic Solanke

Has apparently scored the most headers last season. So what do we do? Don't cross to him at all.

If all Johnson can do is ghost in at the back for a tap...why don't we do that more often.

Ange does not play to the strengths of what this team can do....in fact he does the opposite.

How he would’ve enjoyed playing alongside Perisic.

Did not look fit to me to be honest, lets hope those couple of games will help him get back to his best.

I thought the same. Put a hell of a lot of work in chasing and pressing their defenders as usual. Just wish he'd get through balls nearer the goal instead of just having to run all the time.

That said, Bournemouth defenders are quite strong and know his game well. He gave us more of a platform to try and work from than what you imagine the likes of Tel or Son would/could

Think is that's what Ange uses him for, a fudging pressing workhorse and a pivot for the other players to work off, vs. really being the goal threat. The scarcity of chances he gets per match is clear.

This system is so brick .. we crowd out our wingers who want space and we use our CF as a fudging donkey ..

Its funny, if you look back at this thread, I mentioned very early on into his time with us the lack of chances we were creating for him. It was early, so most people deemed it nothing to worry about, yet now everyone sees it.

Nothing wrong with using a CF as a foil for the wide players in theory as long as your wide players produce the goods, didn't do Klopps Liverpool any harm
Mane and Salah in their prime were both goal scoring and creative wide men. We in comparison have a physically spent Son and Johnson who cant do anything accept score tap-ins at the back post. Its not any sort of comparison.

Salah is in the his prime right now. Getting better.

I do feel sorry for Dom. He works like a trojan and it's rarely coordinated so at least his initial press might lead to the opposition suffering.

And it just gives me the feeling he's running himself into the ground for very little....and every bit of that used energy is detracting from other parts of his game, as he is way beyond a workhorse...he's a skilful/intelligent player.

I do wonder how he truly feels post match sat in the changing room?

I didn't see the game, but have felt the same a lot over the time he's been at Spurs. Would it really hurt for his team mates to get some crosses into his zones?

Would love to know what Ange said in that initial phone call.

"Come play for me, you'll spend each game closing down the defence and goal keeper and we'll create a scoring chance for you once every 3/4 games.

What do you mean when you say through balls so you're one v one with the keeper though Dom?"

I'd also put another perspective on this.

We lost Kane and didn't have Solanke for Ange's first season and yet still scored more league goals. That was an amazing feat to lose a 30 goal man, even though Kane only got 3 league assists.

As we moved onto season 2, the forward area was designed to have Richi, Solanke, Son, Johnson, Odobert and Werner rotating along with Madds and Kulu pulling some strings just in behind. There has been a bit of a perfect storm going on with the early season injuries and the Werner meltdown. If we could have just had normal level challenges then it is possible that Solanke's service would have been a lot better.

He is probably just broken
GB talked about a midfield of gray, bergvall and Kulu and that, at least for me, has a supply line for someone like solanke
I may be wrong but I don’t think Maddison ever puts a ball in for him to move onto
Sonny doesn’t really do that for anyone now
Joshnson.. no
He is fighting for scraps to get goals but the positive is be doesn’t stop fighting
And when there is a ball he does seem to make the most of the majority of them

Because he's noticeably slow, in fact, frustratingly slow.

I think its accurate to say that he was largely brought in as a focus point and, a bit like Firminio at Liverpool, the wide men would be the danger to the opposition.

Now Sonny's and BJ numbers are pretty good (despite some eye test failings) but do I feel their numbers are good because of Solanke? Probably not. I don't recall much connecting up between them.

Not to turn another subject into a Bournemouth comparison :).... considering they play a high energy game how did they use Solanke as he was scoring regularly (I wonder what his data was like for that season..was he over performing Xg etc?)

He scored tonnes of tap ins for them
We don’t get tap ins because we have players shooting poorly (cutting in and speculating or spanking it high) and we don’t play it centrally with the crossing
He is a crucial part of the attack because he takes 2 centre backs with him. The wide players IMO should see that more effectively
