Injuries

I shan’t be counting my chickens (pigeons) with Richarlsion tbh, what with his return from injury in October only last a couple of weeks before his hamstring gave way yet again. Sadly those type of injuries tend to accumulate and with his history there’s every risk he’s another Sessegnon.

Hopefully Moore’s immune system has fully recovered from whatever he contracted in the autumn and he doesn’t succumb to that sickness bug which ravaged our squad last week.
Ange said Richarlison would need another week of training, wanting to be careful with him. Moore could be on the bench.

I would not bet against that the boots they wear now are contributing to injuries. Bought a pair last year, but cramped up in my calf after only about 15 minutes. They're so rigid. Almost no flex at all. Like a fudging wooden plank with studs. As soon as I switched back to my old Copa Mundial or Predator from 25 years back, I was OK.

Have to say I think this is a great shout. Between modern surfaces and the incessant 'need' for new 'technology' in boots, I think you're onto something.

Blades instead of studs definitely increases injuries. You don't actually want too much grip, sometimes its better to go into a slide rather than have resistance against it. But that causes knee injuries. We're getting hamstring injuries.

Hamstring injuries is most often because of physical conditioning or overuse.
In Angeball overuse - sudden sprints when muscles are spent - is the main culprit.

Two games a week (Europe, cups etc.) requires active and moderate rotation which Ange is still learning about. We're not going to win anything until he does.

Ange is still learning about? Stop it! This man has so many years of football experience. Stop dissing him.

new league, more games ... and the game doesn't stand still. no end to learning the game
That is not what I got from your email and I am pretty sure in Scotland that he must have played more than 1 game in a week at a time. Suggesting he is still learning about rotating the team is different from not assuming one knows everything in football.

Could be a factor, similar to when all those metatarsal injuries came about and a lot of people thought it was because of the bladed studs but this time it seems to be mostly just us affected.

There's lots of research about this. Stud design is definitely a big factor in injury prevention, but one that hasn't especially transferred from research into commercial boot design and consumer choice.

I keep telling you, eventually we will have to transition to 2 halves of 45 mins with 11 subs at half time.
That's the only way to fit in all these competitions, the expanded UEFA Comps, the Club World Cup league thing, the "fly to Australia the day after the season Cup" and the "fly to Korea the day before the season cup" and expanded World Cup etc.
Nobody wants to hear it, nobody will agree with me until it happens in 2044...
Well if that ever happened we wouldn't fare well with our lack of squad depth. Chelsea would have a big advantage.

Speaking of injuries, Rodri aside, You don't seem to see as many ACL/knee ligament 'season ending' injuries as much as we used to.

..although I know its a big topic in the women's game recently and how they should have female specific boots etc.

Bentancur, Perisic, Timber, Buendia. There's been a few in the last 2 years. But maybe less than there used to as the game becomes less contact (although ACL are often more from falling badly that horror tackles).

I think it is more that an ACL injury used to pretty much mean end of career and therefore you naturally tended to remember hearing about the injury. I suspect there's no real difference in the frequency of occurence.
