James Maddison

His two best performances of the season were some combination of him spraying it around from the 6 position (space) or when he and Deki are on opposite sides up front and he's allowed to make runs (space).

Not saying he can't play in congestion, but he runs the game when given that space
Very few players around that can run a game without being given that space. Unless they're playing for a team that has very good ball players on most or all positions.

Perhaps we're talking about somewhat things?

To me there's hardly a player in our squad that I think is more likely to both keep possession and progress possession in a useful way from a tight spot than Maddison. When playing well at least.

Kulusevski can be very effective in those situations, but usually plays with a high level of risk. Progresses it well quite often, but will also lose it quite often.

Bentancur too is good in those situations and a good mix of keeping possession and progressing the ball, but too often let down by limited awareness.

Solanke has really impressed me in tight spaces.

scored against liverpool but his overall game was poor and ange was right to sub him off.
he didn't get close enough to provide support to solanke and was lazily pinging the ball ahead of son and a quick defender which was not going to work.
looked disinterested in defence too - son and kulu often tracking back faster

Just like Son, he’s a luxury player who’s capable of a moment of magic but we cannot afford 2 passengers who do nothing for 89 minutes at this level in a system where our ability to outrun opposition is fundamental to success.

He seems a bit too weak and slow to really fight it out or 'win the right' to play his game. Although the commentator did say he has got 5 goals in 5 games, as has Deki, whereas Diaz hadn't scored for months. It's a funny old game.
Gotta earn the right to play, with enough energy, fight and work to win a foothold in the game. Would rather start with more midfield battlers than the luxurious Son and Maddison.

It's very in keeping with everything Spurs right now. We can match up against a load of stats and see a lot of positives, but lurking in the background are these flaws that ultimately mean we're coming up short. It just seems to go hand in hand with the entire setup of the squad.

His goals are papering over the cracks.
He did nothing today, even the goal, the guy kulu tackles to get the ball from was maddisons man and he ran away from him, into space, marking no one and closing no one down.

Said it before and i will say it again, talented player for sure but he is so inconsistant and he was the same at his previous clubs.
