Jose Mourinho - SACKED

But it’s not very, very late.... it’s very, very early. Jose is risking over a third of the game with the possibility of just one injury putting us down to ten men.

Agreed that that risk would have existed however from the very start yesterday it was just a matter of time before they scored, and how many they scored. We need to change the way the game was going

I'm not sure I agree. PEH, Reguilon, Bale, DOherty and Ndombele (barely) weren't here under Poch
But it was obvious to all that we weren’t going to be competitive from the off? The comment about not being resistant to a press is for the current crop. Flat track bullies perhaps.

I do have a recurring question of how can a group of footballers just not be ‘up for it’ in certain games, especially when they are by definition important ones. Is it just my bias or do Chelsea West Ham or goons ever not turn up with their efforts against us?

I think mid-game you just have to bodge a solution. We could have moved Moura wide right after 20 mins and Bale inside for example to see whether than worked, or Bale left and Son right. It wouldnt have been a long-term solution but just plugging a gap which deseparately need filling from minute 1
My mate made a call after 20 minutes to pull bale and get Sissoko on...
I said that would be mental as we would sacrifice his threat
It would have been a solid call in retro spect considering how little bale offered

Christ I didn't realise that - think I'd rather lose the League Cup final.

I hadnt realised that either. Agreed that if we get into this its a waste of time - we'd presumably not field first choice players in any away games

"The competition is scheduled to run from the 2021–22 season, and will serve as the bottom level of the existing UEFA Europa League competition, which is due to be reduced from 48 to 32 teams in the group stage. The competition will primarily be contested by teams from lower-ranked UEFA member association"

No
They see this as a big games
We have been there too and played hard in those games but the team currently still seems passive to me in the BIG games you mention

But you still need to take a number of players with you to train otherwise you can’t even have a practice match

Yes, that would have been another solution. The ones which I suggested were the on-field options

You're missing half of what I said!

If you only have 2 subs (as we did given the Son injury) then as I said above "the Ndombele one was very, very late if its meant to indiciate that the team weren't carrying out the tactics"

If the tactics weren't going as Jose wanted then not making any tactical changes til the 55th min and 62nd min when he took of Bale and Ndombele were very late. I'd of expected a manager to change things on the pitch well before then given how wrong it appeared to be going. The obvious swtich was getting more cover in front of Doherty via Son or Moura

Could have swapped Moura with Bale as it was clear Arsenal were targeting that side- could have done that after ten minutes

We fly out on says of lots of games. If we're in a competition which is below the Europa League, we'd take (roughly) our second 11 and enough U-23 players to fill the bench. We should not be taking anyone who would start in the following PL game

I felt Lamela's first yellow card was a legit tackle. Certainly no worse than Xhaka's tackle on Doherty. That would have meant Lamela only getting his customary one yellow.
Xhaka also should’ve been booked. Lamela could also have had a second yellow before his swinging arm when he slid in from behind.

Yes, that would have been my solution (and I'm with you in confidence over Jose and his fit with Spurs, and being the 'right' solution)

I totally agree. Especially when coming after a good run of results too. Logically I can only think a) fatigue / lack of fitness, b) over-confidence, c) not bought into manager and/or his instructions, d) distracted by unhappiness in personal life. None seem particularly convincing to me, for different reasons. It's weird. Maybe a) is the most likely?

I think we would be trying to second guess the club abs squad at this stage

I agree. Was going to reply to your other post with the open question of whether winning the EL would just be papering over the cracks, which they open up again next season. I've said before that I don't see Mourinho being here in early 2022; the last 3-4 games had me wondering whether he might be and I was wrong
I gave respite to him with the recent improvement on both performance and results, we now need a similar sequence to convince me that Mourinho is having enough of an impact with the personnel available to fulfill his ongoing objectives. Winning EL would paper over the cracks of this season where I’m sure we will be a long way off 4th, but it would get a huge monkey off the players backs. As there have been so many abject performances I’m not sure if that will be enough of a boost for next season. It’s just not a really sexy outcome, the chances of United or goons beating us in the final or even Ajax reeking revenge seems much more likely!
