Jose Mourinho - SACKED

I totally agree. Especially when coming after a good run of results too. Logically I can only think a) fatigue / lack of fitness, b) over-confidence, c) not bought into manager and/or his instructions, d) distracted by unhappiness in personal life. None seem particularly convincing to me, for different reasons. It's weird. Maybe a) is the most likely?

3 games every 8 days forever, 45+ games already in mid March, players are human

Probably last 8 games were a big effort, but even in those were a couple "less than optimum" performances (Fulham being a got away with it, Scum being we didn't)

Yeah agreed. Jose was damned either way there really.
Or he tries to get bale to actually run a bit...
My mate watched it with no crowd noise and messaged me this morning saying “feel sorry for Jose...you can hear him shouting instructions to motivate the players and none listened”. He is a Norwich fan so has no bias although he does want Skipp when they go up
But the lack of effort as I’ve said before isn’t new. We have seen it this season, we have seen it before at the Emirates too
It’s just so frustrating

If we take that approach, league form continues to fluctuate and we finish between 8-10th and the lose the final, what does that mean in terms of confidence in Mourinho in charge for next season?

I think league wise it's probably a little too late now for him to earn my confidence for next season and i would hazard a guess that's the case for most people who are currently down on him. Yesterday was a bit of reminder that our good form recently has come against poor opposition, i don't know know how you address that at this stage so let's at least try and win something so it's not all in vain...

If we aren't in the CL i guess it's not much of a concern which of the lesser 2 competitions we end up in as it'll be used to rotate in untill the latter rounds regardless.

Anyone know which tournament takes precident if we qualify for both EL and the new one?

Yeah maybe it's just that. One thing that made me doubt it was that we didn't seem to tire as the match went on, which would be understandable - instead we looked lethargic from the very first minute. But maybe that was just an attempt from the manager and/or players to manage our physical condition over the 90 minutes. Or maybe that's just how this kind of physical fatigue works.

Higher one usually takes precedent?

Agree with @spurspinter1 if all we end up with is the lower comp, play the b team until SF's ..

From F365:

But if Mourinho’s strategy was foolhardy, it was made worse by the team selection. Mourinho effectively picked the team for front-foot football, with the front three and Lucas Moura all starting, but then implemented a different strategy. There’s very little point sitting deep and defending if Gareth Bale is going to stay high up the pitch and leave your worst defender (Matt Doherty) to cope with two players in Smith-Rowe and Kieran Tierney. Arsenal’s equaliser came from that part of the pitch and Lacazette should have scored from a similar move before that.

After the game, back to *that* Mourinho. He accused “important players” of “hiding” and blamed them for the lack of pressing and attacking in the first hour of the match. As we’ve said before, that suggests one of two things: Either Mourinho is fibbing and the players were told to sit back, or the players didn’t listen and, apparently not for the first time in a big game, played a totally different style to the one the manager demanded. Neither is a good look for Mourinho, whatever his protestations.

It’s a huge concern.... look at the prize money... Due to our player bonuses we’d probably lose money with each game played.

Yes, look at this for the sort of teams which enter this new one:

https://editorial.uefa.com/resource...ac1262ab7c-1000/access_list_2021-22_final.pdf

6th teams in Eng, Ger ,Ita, Sp
5th in France
4th and 5th placed teams in Portugal
3rd, 4th in Belgium Russia etc

Most important thing therefore is whether the money is worth it

It would suck, but we should look at how it could work

- Hart, Tanganga, Rodon, Sessegnon, Cirkin, Winks, Devine, Bergwijn, Dele, Lamela, Vinicius/Scarlett could have played this season in that type of comp.

Use it as a development platform, you get to the latter stages, put better players ..

We the players out there more than capable of beating them handsomely, that in itself should be enough of a boost to get them through that game
Go out on the front foot, dominate and score and tiredness wouldn't be an issue.
Granted there is a massive low afterwards and a reaction to fitness, but we have three points and killed of a direct rival.

Completely. As I said, send the second 11 plus kids. Useful for match fitness and experience. One team for the weekend, one for the midweek

Mourinho has been in the job going on 16 months now. Honestly, can anyone see any coaching he has implemented within the team apart from the low-block?
I'm not seeing any kind of coaching and my fears that he hasn't really been a coach worth the name since 1st January 2015 has now been confirmed after what seemed like a change of tack in recent weeks,

The West Ham game we were unlucky overall, but yesterday he was out-coached by Mikel Arteta to add to the long list now: Potter, Klopp, Pep, Tuchel, some may say Moyes, Lampard, Solksjaer etc etc

Can anyone show me the actual coaching extras that Jose is bringing? I'm not seeing anything that a Pulis or Allardyce couldn't also bring tbh...

It's not like we have a crap squad or anything; an attack-minded manager could have a real impact with our attacking options tbh; some of the best we've seen in our club since the PL started. But ZERO coaching/cohesion beyond getting it to Son or Kane or Moura/Bale doing something fantastic

It would still be a massive distraction though, with Mourinho having to travel around Europe rather than spending that time on the training pitch with the first team.

I don’t see why we couldn’t send a “second string” coaching team too, make it part of the academy project.

you have certain obligations in European competitions relating to that - didn't we get done in for treating the intertoto cup in a similar fashion/?

not sure why two days away from the training pitch should be that much of a problem - leave a trusted deputy in you place

Assuming this is a serious question, what are you looking for? players/system/patterns?

- We are not a system team, which seemingly confuses pundits/internet, i.e. -> we don't play exactly the same way each game does not equal we don't have coaching.
- The Scum/Arteta did not beat us on tactics, they beat us on effort and actually Arteta's subs almost cost him in last 20 mins

What do you see?

- Aurier is a better defender
- Lucas playing a number 10 role with a high press
- Kane playing a deeper role that has increased his assists to record PL levels
- Ndombele playing the deep CM role
- Bale playing a deep right role (often behind RB) that allows him to use his passing
- Various blocks, we have played low/medium/high, usually with a counterattack

What do you not see

- We have not fixed the dead tempo/don't turn up issue that has seemingly plagued us long before Jose
- We haven't figured out how to transition between parts of games, i.e. when we slow the pace, we surrender initiative and often struggle to get back in match.

Not like his pragmatism or approach = sure, he needs to be accountable for results, but to say we are uncoached is a bit of a stretch.
