Lucas Bergvall

Pretty sure he will start, there is a reason he was on the bench yesterday.
Perhaps. Think we're probably also just managing his minutes a bit.

He's been quality, but his lack of experience has also showed. The NLD is a lot of things including a test of composure and ability to keep a cool head in difficult circumstances. If he starts I think it will be his biggest test to date, bigger than the Liverpool game.

Or to put it differently. If we start two 18 year olds in a league NLD and they can both walk off the pitch having put in good and mature (enough) performances that's probably close to unprecedented.

Shows how far he's come just that it's something to be considered. Him and Gray.

Of course there was only one 18 year old on the pitch today; that pretty decent kid in red whose name I should've remembered after hearing the commentators mention it a few hundred times. 🤷‍♂️

Gray Bergvall Solanke - 3 signings from our much maligned summer transfer window and arguably our best players right now. Hopefully Odobert and any future signings match that trend - early signs are good with Kinsky too.

Tbf Ange said the young ones were bought to have an impact now and it looks like that is a fair call.

But I assume it was to compliment the old guard

Imo struggled in the #10 role in the first half. On the ball he was fine, but defensively he was a bit all over the place and our pressing suffered for it.

Deeper in the second half he was much better while still using his ability on the ball.

I don’t think he was playing the 10
Him and sarr were being asked to be box to box imo
Impossible to know without seeing the pre match talk from Ange

He wasn't playing as a no 10, he was playing as a box to box left CM. There was no pressing, that wasn't down to Bergvall.

If you describe it as 6-8-10 or a 6 with two box to box players is fairly irrelevant imo. Sarr and Bergvall didn't figure out the pressing at all.

We did try to press high at times at least, but we got easily bypassed.

There was only one team pressing and that was Arsenal. The pressing comes from the front three, not Sarr or Bergvall. Out of the front three only Solanke tried to press. It needs the front three to press together and then for Sarr of Bergvall to follow up and press any ball from their defence into midfield. There was never a proper press in order for them to do that.

The way I saw it there were definitely times when the front three pressed and the midfield failed to execute the next part of that. Not from a lack of effort, but from not knowing where and when to move.

Yep, the sad thing is Son has never really been good at pressing and Kulu is knackered because we have had to overplay him.
Son tries to
He really does
But by default he leaves space and never gets near the man
It’s why teams play down that side so easily pool showed that in the league game

Another very good game from him I thought. Long gone is the player who looked immature and not ready for this level a couple of months ago. Talent was always obvious, but now he can be trusted.

Not only playing in different roles in midfield, but playing with different players. Started 11 times for us now in total, but doubt it's more than 2-3 times in any given role with the same players around him in midfield.

Essentially still settling in, but already being really impressive.
