Marcus Edwards

Excelsior is the smallest club, both in terms of budget (I think) and in terms of support, in the Eredivisie. But they are known for their cultured football, and for giving youth a chance - and despite the odds, they manage to survive every year when bigger clubs (Twente for example) are relegated. Van Persie played at Excelsior for a season before he broke into the first team at Feyenoord. Unlike at some other clubs in the Eredivisie, expectations are low - which might be part of the reason why the move could be the right one for him. His arrival has not been generated much attention in the Dutch press so far (from what I've seen), and he might well get lots of playing time.
Bodes well for when Marcus swaggers in with some bling, giving it large :-D

Well he seems to be saying the right things about the loan destination. Ok, I know it’s probably just from a PR team, but it strikes the right chord
(From Football London) :

Edwards though is now looking forward to playing in the Dutch Eredivisie and feels that his playing style is suited to the league.
"When I heard about the interest I did not have to think about it for a long time," a delighted Edwards said
"I have been following the Dutch Eredivisie for some time and I think that football fits me here. I honestly did not know much about Excelsior, but I looked up a few things and what I read really appealed to me.
"I still have to meet everyone, but I already feel welcome. There is a great atmosphere at this club."

Let’s hope he gains the maturity to make it a successful loan. As much for himself as for Spurs.

Sounds like it could be a very good move. Probably needs to properly stand out in the Dutch league at this point though.

Yes, that's my concern as well. Only Matic at Vitesse has succeeded on loan in the Eredivisie to such an extent that he also (sort of) made it back in the Premier League - and he first had to prove himself at Benfica for that.

Just playing regularly would be a good start. He's never played first team competitive games week in and out. Just needs to do the basics well every week, more than try to stand out, and his natral skill with add plenty of spice. When is their next game? Can see Spurs fans having a second team this year if he's starting.

They played this evening, he came on for the final 10 mins or so.

Looked like he did quite allright. Holds on to the ball for too long, but probably a bit too eager to impress. Got around his man a few times, and almost got an assist though. Hope he takes his chance there!
