Micky van de Ven

I'm watching a little game on Sky Sports between him and Ryan Sessegnon.
Mickey just seems like a lovely young man, the sort you'd be very happy for your daughter to bring home.

Imperious today.
I particularly liked the bit towards the end where he ran away from Everton with the ball and the Everton player gave up because he wasn't catching Mikey.
Not many players as fast with the ball as they are without it.
Mickey pulled off no less than four Ledley-esque saving tackles today.

We truly have a world class CB within our ranks.

We can’t keep putting him in those positions, his hamstrings will suffer.

It’s not just the sprinting, it’s the stretching to make the tackle too.

We're pretty much top of the league for defending set pieces. It's not a major issue.

I don’t really care how other teams do it, might just be that everyone else is really brick at it.

I’d say anything that stops us keeping clean sheets is a major issue.

I’d say the point is having that ability as an insurance policy when the scheme breaks down.

Not that being the scheme itself.

Nah, teams breaking on you is part and parcel of playing this way - having defenders that excell in that type of situation is a fundamental, it's what allows you to push up in confidence.

I think we relied on it too much yesterday and he will have continual injury problems if he has to do that 7/8 times every game.

Time will tell.

Shouldn't do if he's warmed up & stretching correctly - no different to expecting attackers to sprint on to through balls multiple times per game. Don't remember that being a concern of yours when we were playing counter attacking football.

It's the stretch tackle and required contact at the end that heightens the risk.

I don't pay as much attention to the ball going the other way.
