Next Spurs Manager

According to Wikipedia, he signed a brickton of players at inter in 2009/10 including sneijder, eto'o, lucio, milito and quaresma among others. But he also sold a bunch, including Zlatan witch resulted in a net spend of -£8 million.

losing Zlatan was huge, let’s also not forget that he beat Barca in the semi when they had Messi AND Zlatan

I find this all very concerning. Let's hope we don't seriously implode and end up in the Championship, especially given the debt we must be carrying. I don't want to end up like Leeds.

Not a worry mate, the money situation is under control (the fact that we feel no pressure to immediately take naming rights money is telling), and the club will not go down because someone makes the unpopular decisions needed.

What does make me laugh is many used to defend Poch for not winning a trophy saying winning a cup is all about luck and the league position is much more critical. Now we are performing pathetically in the league it’s all about, yeah but he got us to a CL final. The defence of Poch because we’ve grown accustomed to his charm and persona gets a little ridiculous at times. Football is a results oriented business first and foremost....

Who's said that?

Thanks. Despite being fairly rational generally, I remember last time we went down and wouldn't care to repeat the experience.

Seen it mentioned plenty in the previous season or two regarding our league place being far more important and dismissing the cups as much more just about luck. And I’ve lost count of the number of posts countering our terrible domestic form (just seen it’s apparently 38 points from 38 games?!) with the fact we reached the CL final....

And that's a fair point. But they were competing in the CL with clubs who had cost much, much more. Mourinho, as much as I dislike the clam, has a very, very good football brain and I think it's wrong to write him off as a "chequebook manager" or "yesterday's man".

Wasn’t his inter team all imports and brought in players?

Another thought. The favourite uncle thing Poch had going on ultimately did him no favours. Yeah all the players are gonna come out now with platitudes and I'm sure they loved him. He was safe and reassuring.

What they need however is bit of fear and pressure and a manager who knows what it takes and won't except less. Some of our players have been cruising around for months in safety. Those days are now gone.

The same people saying both?

It is true that the league position is a better measure of how good a team is and that luck can play a bigger part in winning a cup. That's just the nature of one off games. If we're honest, our run to the CL final would only come in one time in ten.

Poch did gear work at improving players in his first three seasons. Who knows if it could've continued if we had rebuilt when he wanted.

I think that fear only works short term. No one likes working for a bully.

Jose for me.

He’s a gamble but the whole situation is.

Get a fired up Jose and we have the squad to win stuff.

I actually think some of the squad could use a kick up the ass and some tough love.

I’m also interested to see what sort of Uber clam he can make out of Dier haha

Unless our wantaway players do a 180 we essentially need a whole new back four for the starting XI, potentially a DM and GK too. i think people tend to ignore this when they speak about how good our squad is - the attack is strong and the 2 CM signings are a good start to rebuilding but there is a lot of work to do still.

I’ve no idea but would hazard a guess many said both, there is a pattern with many posters who defend Poch regardless of his actions or results on the pitch.

Absolutely agree with what you say re cups vs league which is my point. The CL run is no excuse for our poor league for at least a year now. Love the man, but this probably is the best result for all parties...

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but, one thing I’ve not been able to square, financial might compared to city/Liverpool/united/Chelsea/arsenal used as a counter point to negatively spiralling league form, yet against Ajax, to whom we’ve given more cash for three players in the last 6 years than they have spent in their entire history, sneaking past them was a result to be lauded. We shouldn’t have needed the Moura heroics.

It was only lauded because of the late, dramatic style of the comeback.

Had we been knocked out it would have been seen as a poor result over 2 legs, albeit a tough match-up against an exciting young team
