I tried the Western Epic of Heavens gate yesterday, 6 mins or so of opening credits and black screen did not bode well.

Its nowhere near as bad as made out but its not great either

Gladiator II was a decent watch.
Trap was too far-fetched, but watchable. Could have been a good film.
One Love watchable.
Back to Black watchable.
Revisited Darkest Hour, my GHod what a performance from Gary Oldman that is, simply stunning.

The film that killed United Artists studio, and generally the concept of giving free reign and sizable budgets to young directors. I've never actually seen it though.

Cimino was quite a problematic character wasn't he? I liked about the first third of the Deer Hunter.

Yeh the story behind it is incredible, he was basically in competition with Coppola and wanted to break his record for amount of reel used for filming from Apocalypse Now. They were 5 days behind schedule after just 6 days.

Its a tough watch, its def one thats been made to show off but you can tell he made the Deer Hunter as it has the same feel. I thought the Deer Hunter was a ego trip for him but just manages to contain being a great film.

Not sure he did much after that
