I saw Longlegs after putting up this list which I thought was worthy in inclusion of my films of the year - not sure it nailed the landing but had a intense atmosphere throughout that left an impression

In no order (other than The Brutalist as my favourite of 2024)

The Brutalist, The Substance, Blitz, Hard Truths, Kneecap, Nosferatu

I sww Anora and was overwhelmingly underwhelmed. I need to see several more, and Longlegs is in that list.

Did you see it through to the recent series? I'm doing a re watch atm and have just moved on to The Return - love it

Only seen Mullholand Drive of his movies, going to work through them once I've finished with TP

I think I've watched the original Twin Peaks three times, loved every second of it. I found the new series in somewhat Lynchian fashion almost unwatchable. I've tried watching Inland Empire at least 3 times, but always give up at some point. None of them are bad, of course, but I just get completely lost and it's like watching someone else's weird absurd dream. Yet, I fully expect to like both a few years down the line.

I just recently saw a Norwegian movie (but it's in English) called Ibelin. Its a documentary about a kid with a muscular disease that gets progressively worse as he ages, he's seemingly very lonely and isolated, but when he dies, his parents discovers that he had a big friend network in World of Warcraft, and that he had basically lived in that game for years without telling them, talking to people and helping them with various things, falling in love with this one girl from Netherlands and so on. The movie then re-enacts (from chat logs and game data) his life in WoW as if it were in WoW and so on. He's got his own gravestone in the game now.

Anyways, sounds weird, but a touching story.

Not quite, but I do get access to previews...I should clarify that although I saw it at a preview/festival screening in Nov, the film itself hit screens officially a week or so ago. It is really quite an achievement IMO...

This. Turned it off half way, not because it was particularly unwatchable, just couldn't be bothered.
It's a special film in so much as the buzz is enormous yet the film (IMO anyway) not remotely good enough whether you take it as a 'class study' or an indie absurdist comedy. Harmony Korine gets into these areas gar cleaner (and he is not always my favourite either).

I caught Nosferatu the other day, it was absolutely everything I wanted it to be. I'm by no means a horror expert nor am I well versed in the bram stoker book / other influences but fudge yeah it was good.

The additional soundtrack of some clam rustling packets of haribo for 90 minutes was not appreciated, to the point where I almost had a word - in such an atmospheric/ chilling film is so frustrating. If you're hungry, go to the restaurant you utter macarons, or just go to brick films that I don't care if you ruin.

Where do you guys typically watch movies and series? I've got HBO, Netflix and some Norwegian stuff, but it's so much brick on there. I've been trawling through this thread, because I know you guys are adults and don't like flimflam - and I can find literally none of these movies on there. It's all either "Fanny killed her grandpa with a sock, see what happened over 37 episodes!!", "The life of Cathrine Pomswickle took a dramatic turn when her past came back to haunt her!!!" never heard of that before. Not to mention "Queesfizzers 8: The Return of Goggletrumper!" - I AM NOT 12 YEARS OLD FFS! I rage quit Netflix and a few Norwegian things last night trying to find something decent to watch.

Good to hear mate, I have read really good things about it, not really getting the out there PR I thought it would, but def getting the plaudits. I will give it a go.

I have loaded my Prime with MGM, Apple and Paramount+, between those I get some pretty decent stuff but importantly for me a massive depth of classics. Also the TV part is important to me, have caught all of Yellowstone now, Landman, Slow Horses and The Agency.

Oscar robberies

Robert Shaw - Jaws
Paul Newman - The Hustler
Ben Kingsley - Sexy Beast & Shindlers List
Kingsley wasn't even nominated for Schindler's List was he? Fiennes was robbed for supporting actor that year, Tommy Lee Jones got it for The Fugitive.

Newman probably got his for The Colour of Money because of his previous snubs.

Biggest robbery imo was the year Shakespeare In Love won loads because Weinstein clearly bought them.

Nice, thanks! Maybe I should give Prime a go next month. Thanks!

Shaw not getting a nomination for one of cinemas greatest remember characters as quint is a travesty

Yeh I love Colour of Money but its not Newmans best, he should have had it for the Hustler ironically.

Kingsley or Fiennes for me, the Fugitive was like a decent TV movie, weird it won. Actually looking back Pete Pos was brilliant in The name of the father and was a better shout than TLJ.
