***OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool***

I don't think Gray is the first alternative to Fernandes. He's not aware defensively as Bentancur nor is anywhere near as good a passer or user if the ball as with of them.

It should be Fernandes or Bentancur and Tonali or Bergvall. With Gray as an option for either of those roles. Gallagher is also an option for the Tonali role.
I suppose the debate around Gray is what his best position is, when it comes to men’s senior football, he has barely played in midfield. He was the right back in his one season at Leeds, and for us has been played at RB, CB, LB and in various CM roles. It really is time for the sake of his own development, where he chooses, or is given, a specialised role and focuses on it.

Just saw the highlights. I thought we had the better chances (which we had, according to xg). Getting Maddison on was a revelation. This team badly needs a 10. I hope he can stay fit for a bit now.

That was my exact impression too from the highlights. Poor finishing and great goalkeeping (apart from our actual goal) kept us from getting a result. That, and a few great finishes from Liverpool.

It's hard to properly judge as I didn't watch the entire game, but it looked like progress offensively, which is what I'd like to see now. We absolutely have to score a PL goal too though, preferably also winning.

Think Kudus could play central if Solanke ain't up to it, strong and can hold the ball up. With Marmouth, Savio and A.N.Other behind.
We played fairly well last night, didn't take our chances as usual and suffered.
Some of our passing and movement was very good, let down by wrong decision making or slightly off final pass.
We will beat someone soon...

Gray is good at 90% of being a FB, he gets exposed at top end of pitch (makes good runs, but not necessarily good decisions), and he's badly exposed 1:1 as a FB (never should have let Gakpo turn inside for the goal, Isak murdered him on a take on later in the game). Not blaming him, but people who think he's anything more than cover at RB at this level are missing a bit of the picture.

I agree. For someone that is supposedly so highly rated, who we were willing to let our England international go for as we had cover, who we have made one of our captains, he had a dreadful game last night and needs to be better. The Gakpo thing was just ridiculous, all the time in the world to shoot on his favoured foot in the box.

And the missed pass to Tel. Oh my goodness. I have no idea how he doesn’t see it or why he doesn’t make that pass.

I really like the idea of Gray. But he needs to be so much better.

He is a CM not a RB though, not getting RB cover in the summer has killed us

It's no wonder why we can't score goals

I think part of that is confidence. He showed at the tail end of last season that played regularly in the middle, he can do very well. Absolutely wasted in every sense as a right back.

My only concern with that team is Marmoush as a 10, I’m not exactly sure it suits him, I won’t pretend to having watched much of him in Germany so I just had a quick look on FotMob and picked out a handful of random matches from his last season there, every match had Frankfurt lining up the same shape.

Marmoush operated a lot on the left, and in the spaces between the midfield and defence of the opposition, with Ekitike as a more traditional striker, although both were fluid and changed positions regularly.

He was, couldn't believe he didn't see the obvious pass. Love the kid though.

Should not need to even see it, he should know that the run would be made, and if he passed it into that space and no one was there, it's on them, not him.

It's one of the funny parts about Porro, he will sometimes pass a ball to nowhere and fans will blame him, instead of realizing, someone was supposed to make the run.

Said it earlier, Gray as a RB doesn't work because of what he does at the top of pitch with the ball, and what he does when isolated defending 1:1, not his fault, but he's just being a utility player than can "do a job" at RB.

Yeh, but TBH I dont see a time when RBZ plays a straight 2, so am looking at alternatives.

He isnt a 9 to lead the line, he floats around so much, he may as well be 10 for abit haha
He won't offer the things you would want from a 10. He's not going to link the midfield to the striker and you suggest that striker is Solanke What's even the point? 🤣

Solanke has no nose for goals, no hunger to score. No ability to shift the ball and get his shot off. So we play Marmoush who isn't a provider to provide to Solanke who isn't a goal scorer. 🤣

My primary concern with playing Marmoush as a 10 is that in practice it plays out as 442.
He absolutely is not a 10 and won't provide what an actual 10 provides. He's a striker, he might not be the physical specimen some seem to want but him playing as a 10, won't actually mean he plays as an actual 10.
