***OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool***

Having listened to pretty much all of RDZ interviews and pressers I think he knows this. He just hasn’t had a 10 fit and ready.

As soon as Madders is fully fit (I hope he starts Saturday) RDZ will have to choose 2 from 3 in midfield. And then they rotate around knocks and tiredness.

You add full time Maddison and bring Porro back into that team and the goal potential goes up. Still need a competent striker of course.

I get that but I'd rather we play someone else in the no 10 position and have a better balance - Bergvall, Marmoush, Kudus etc could all play there if needed.

For me, Kudus isn't a number 10; he plays too much with his back to the opposing goal, and I don't think he can orchestrate the play.
Apart from Maddison, I don't see anyone—not even Xavi.
I remember Bergvall from the early days under Postecoglou; I recall him playing one-touch and first-time passes at times, and back then, I thought he could be that number 10.

Or—here’s a crazy idea—maybe Gray.
He could play a Bellingham-style role, like at Real Madrid. If I were the coach, I’d try playing him in a setup like that one day

Our 10s are Maddison, Kulu and Simmons. Players who can do a job there but not neccesarily a good job are Odobert, Kudus, Savio, Marmoush, Gallagher, Fernandes and Bergvall.

I personally would rather not really see any of the latter list performing the role. At a push maybe Kudus but I agree he can't orchestrate, well known of the 2nd list can.

I was replying to PD, who saw Kudus potentially playing as a number 10.

You're talking about Kulu; yes, Kulu would be better as a number 10.
Even though I'd prefer him to stay on the right wing.

Then we see that without a number 10, we struggle..

We might have overlooked him, but yes, he is young—we have Luca Williams-Barnett.
RdZ should integrate them from time to time, like during the pre-season matches.

The issue is those are very different types of players from the others, and who you pick should be determined by style you expect to play

If we expect the 10 to "unlock" opposition, it's Maddison or Xavi
If you expect the 10 to carry the ball into the box, Marmoush, Deki, Kudus, Odobert, Savio, Bergvall, are probably your best options
If you expect the 10 to shoot, Marmoush, Deki, Bergvall
If you expect the 10 to run into the box late, Bergvall, Gallgher?

If we swap these players around but don't change how we play, it won't work

It's a great set of points. You've not even touched on the impact of having 2 wide forwards and the implication that has on the 10 to be responsible defensively through the centre of the pitch. We need our double pivot midfielders to be able to assume the 8 role and hit the box late knowing that someone has to cover them.
