Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

That sounds like the kind of dangerous political nonsense that leads to those we elect going against our wishes.

We elect people to make decisions. Once elected we trust them to make those decisions for us. Otherwise we would have to have referenda on everything.

Public opinion on individual matters is regularly wrong. As shown by many f the posts on here.

We have a tradition of party manifestos for a reason. The public vote for the party that will (roughly) do what they want them to do.

They, and the CPS, are servants of the public and should act accordingly.

That rules out a large chunk of christians and jews as well then.

gonads.

Jews yes. But Christians had their diet of Worms 500 years ago. Accusing a large chunk of Christians in Europe of not accepting gay marriage and female rights is either ill informed or wantonly stoking up anti Western culture.

The guy that did the German massacre had apparently tweeted Judaism was the one true chosen religion. Personally i think he was a shia acting against Sunnis. You do not do what he did because he was right wing. Its a ridiculous viewpoint.

Edit. Islam is a cancer.

This may or not be true but it stacks up more than saying he was a right wingnut.

I'm generally calm and reserved on these things these days (less so years back). But the developments internationally are a worry to me now.

I understand why. We are entering uncharted waters with a combination of extremists and exceptionally inexperienced billionaires running various shows. I manage to backburner it simply because I have no control whatsoever, but on those occasions where I sit, ponder and take a beat to digest the possibilities, let's just say nothing would surprise me.

Can you have a same sex marriage in a Church of England Church? No. A Blessing yes, but not an equal marriage ceremony.

Church of England allows same sex couples to be ordained but expects them to be sexually chaste. Doesn't expect that from a hetero-couple partnership.

Sounds like equality to me.

Now do Islam. Go on. Tell me how Islam does it.

Please tell me diversity is our strength.

Joker.

we were talking about religions rather than populations. (edit - just did some digging, Pew Research - around about 40% of Christians in Europe oppose same-sex marriages and that increases with a) more regular church attendance (i.e non-practising but self-identifying christians tend to be more in favour, more religious tend to be against) & b) the further east you go (Orthodox churches) - so yeah, a fairly large chunk (not a majority) of european Christians don't accept gay marriage.

Islam is terrible for it but, unbelievably (!!), there are Muslims who are homosexual and/or supportive of homosexuality but you think Islam is a 'cancer' so I'm sure you are open-minded to different opinions.

Holding up Western religions (or western cultures for that matter) as some paragon of utopian equality is BS. It may be better than some other cultures, and by magnitudes in some cases, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved or ridiculed.

Orthodox church, Catholics are even worse than Anglicans if you want to go European. Only churches that seem to have reached a representative level of equality are the Scandinavian ones (Norway, Sweden, Iceland).

And WTF, the Diet of Worms? What did that have to do with female emancipation/equality or homosexuality (I'll answer for you - absolutely nothing) or did you just throw it in there to sound informed? It was the Catholic church trying to head off Luther and maintain the primacy of the Pope. Nothing beyond that. Female & LGB rights were shambolic/non-existing in Western religions into the 'modern' age and are still not equal.

But yeah, I'm the 'joker'.

the issue was white rioters were arrested and sentenced in days for whatever and whatever severity. And the two muslims who beat the police officers in manchester has taken fecking months.

........................................

And have zero understanding of the arguments being made...
This has been addressed multiple times in this thread.

Their first remit is to act within the confines of the law. Then if by the letter of the law a charge should be brought, the ‘is it in the public interest to bring this charge’ can come into play.
I don’t see what this has to do with this particular case though. The CPS looked at all the evidence, including the potential aggravating factors, including the actions of the police, and decided that it is right to bring charges. Public opinion did not need to play a part.
I only saw the video of events yesterday ....as a sidenote, I think the copper has got very lucky not to be charged or disciplined for his actions.

I think that if we're going to have a chance of properly staffing our police force, there needs to be a deterrent against attacking officers.

For the types of scum that spend their lives in and out of prison, more prison time isn't a deterrent. Letting the nearest officer loose on you with all the non-lethal weapons at his disposal is.

At the risk of sounding all David Lammy, WTF is going on with the Chagos islands?

It appears to me that we've given them precisely what they want (far too much) and it's clearly an unpopular decision with the public.

So now they've decided they want us to do something for them we don't want to do and give them money too?

Doesn't sound like the smartest negotiating tactic. Although, with Lammy across the table they're probably still at the stage where he's trying to tie his own shoelaces.

I can honestly say as an ex police officer, speaking for myself and many colleagues, we would not agree with that. Those who enforce the law should always be held accountable to it. Otherwise our impartiality is compromised.

Don't disagree with the first part though.
