And local shops, pubs, bars and cafes get all the business from the thousands of workers that come in most working days. It's also a generalisation to say that the finance being processed by the city is just going to the rich. The city is no.1 in the world for trade finance and insurance. They still ring a bell in Lloyds every time a ship sinks. The insurance market and trading floors are a fascinating place. These trades are vital for global commerce. And while there are no doubt lots of funds under management on behalf of the global rich, there's billions under management on behalf of everyone else's pensions and public services. NHS trusts, police forces, local authorities, they all use the capital markets. They invest spare funding into timed deposits that are paid out with interest.

Government and businesses have been encouraging people back. Mandatory x3 days a week for us in the office now. And we are pretty much par in the industry.

My industry is fully hybrid unless you work within a venue/hotel. But even then, in hotels its mainly only the operational staff on site now and not the sales/marketing teams etc. TBF it works for the industry IMO, its fluid, more proactive and companies save a fortune on property and services.

London's working and obsession with being seen to be in an office was always slightly old school in a modern world. Granted it can't work in all industry but in many it clearly does and IMO offers a good work life balance.

I myself and those I contract in have to travel weekends and evenings, hosting clients etc, next week I am hosting clients in the evenings with someone I contract, on the balance of work and life there is no way in that environment would I now work in an office 5 days a week or expect those working for me to do so either, a lot of it comes to trust but also respect of the efforts put into the job and balancing that with fairness.

Its almost like the licensing act in this country which came in as a war time restriction and has remained ever since, this country has alot of attitudes to work bang on, others are so old fashioned its laughable

Not sure if this is a "politics" issue, but declining numbers of people entering church of England on census documents and attending congregations coupled with an increasing number of conversions means that Roman Catholicism is now the most widely practiced religion in England for the first time since the reformation. Demographics of active practitioners (Catholicism is by far the most widely practised form of Christianity by those under 30) mean that it will likely become the dominant form of Christianity in this country.

Interesting, I am more shocked of any rise given how the landscape of the world has changed and people having more interests and distractions. That along with the idea that believing in any kinda sky fairies seems an odd thing in 2025.

True enough, interested to know what would drive people to convert etc, I think organised religion is one of the longest standing fugazis on the planet, but the whole thing fascinates me
