Richarlison

He's not worth much to us or any team if he cannot stay fit.

The frustration is that he's the perfect profile for competition / back up in terms of his attributes and mentality in every other way than actually being available, which is a rather big deal. Without raking through the stats, he seemed relatively free of injury problems at Watford and Everton, cursing bad luck doesn't get us anywhere neither does speculating about our medical team but it's an odd one. In everything Ange does it seems clear that he rates Richarlison highly, fortunately not being as blinkered as some less informed onlookers but with the contract as it is eventually a decision will have to be made - Ideally it'll be an extension after proof that he can remain fit, as otherwise we start fresh with integrating another new signing alongside the many others that are still getting settled.

What is funny is the fan's desperate desire to not have any competition in the squad, as soon as we buy big Dom it's "Well we're obviously going to sell Richy". Similar with Maddison, one game on the bench after the emergence of Kulu and the talk of the town is that we suddenly need to sell Maddison. It's incredibly short term thinking.
We need depth
But depth is only as a good as it’s availability
Richy can’t get fit and stay fit. I’d argue he needs to be fit to avoid injuries and that’s his recent issue
I also think for some players a change of scenery can make a huge difference even to their luck with injuries

Lamela who played 250 times for us, with 30+ games in 6 of his 8 seasons with us? He also had a specific hip condition that we didn't diagnose or treat well for a long time
But was made of glass and hasn’t stayed fit since leaving us. You can spin it as much as you want but some players get injured and stay injured. Some don’t
We have a history of buying some that fall into the former but ultimately they add little value to the club because of their fitness issues

Season Days Injuries Games missed
24/25 58 days 2 11
23/24 124 days 4 10
22/23 59 days 2 11
21/22 70 days 2 13
20/21 15 days 2 2
19/20 18 days 1 2
18/19 46 days 5 3

When you look closely, Richi has gone from a player at Watford / Everton who misses a couple of games to 4 seasons of missing at least a quarter of the season with big injuries. That includes his last season at Everton when this all started.

We will have to admit that the chances of him returning to his early career stats are highly unlikely. The data is too compelling especially if you look deeper and see early career injuries were head injuries, bruised ribs and illness. That's now gone to knee, hamstring and groin injuries.

As much as we love Richi, I think we have to take our medicine and move him on at the next opportunity.

i know i sound heartless but enough is enough.

we've got a good team now and let's learn from our situation from the poch era that progress in the team is needed to keep up the momentum and increasing standards for players.

we need to use our financials and quota purposefully if we want to win anything eventually.

If it helps to offset the costs for a player like eze, it might pay off with a return to champions league. If we get a couple of younger players, they can understudy son and solanke.

sell richy, send him off with fond memories and lets get the next better (fitter) player(s) in a key position ASAP.

I see, ndombele, lo celso, sanchez, hojberg doing better after leaving, win-win for everyone.

Agree with this. Even the top teams struggle when they have injuries, look at the recent form of Arsenal and City! Can’t afford to keep players that are injured so frequently and available so infrequently. If Everton have any players we want then I’d suggest giving them Richarlison as a sweetener.

Anyone know Fluminense squad well enough to see if there any up and coming worth going for?

“What we have that is concrete today, from everything that has been said, is that we have expressed formal interest in Richarlison. We know that it's difficult to bring him in, but we believe that perhaps it's because he wants to be close to the Brazilian national team, to return home to the club where he excelled."

"I have a very good relationship with him, we've had a relationship since I was vice-president of soccer when we brought him in. He's a person with whom I have a good relationship, I got in touch with him, we made a first document to the English club, still without an offer, asking if there was any interest in negotiating. And since then we've been pursuing that interest...", said Mário, adding.

“There are no financial negotiations at the moment, but we know that we also have interesting assets here, youngsters who are of interest to foreign clubs. There's nothing concrete, no names, but every now and then English clubs ask us about youngsters who haven't even made their debut. We have good things to offer, we're thinking about a lot of things, but it's still in its infancy".

"Tottenham have already replied that they're always open to any offer, that he's an important player for them, that they're open, but at the moment they're not interested in negotiating. And we're also talking to the player, to understand his interest in returning," he concluded
